So I'm running windows 7, and this is the second day in a row that the
taskbar is just gone. I still have the windows/start button, but
nothing where the taskbar should be. Both yesterday and today I noticed
it after coming back to my computer after it being on all night.
Yesterday at some point it came back, but I can't remember when, and
didn't do anything special to do it. I can alt-tab to get to different
windows, but if I minimize something, it makes the little animation like
it's minimizing to the taskbar, but then I can't see it. It's not
auto-hidden or anything, and if I right click where it should be it
gives me the options the same as if I right clicked on my desktop.

Anybody know what the deal is?

Here's a screenshot:

Bonus points if anyone can identify my background from just that little slice right there.

try right clicking on the desktop, and then click on personalize.  Hit the task bar option on the left side of the screen and check the settings.

Just read your whole post

I don't know what to tell you.

Try using system restore and go back a week or so.

Facebook?

It's a beta of a browser called Rockmelt, it integrates facebook and twitter right into your browser. I have some invites, if you want one, IM me.

And I don't think I need to do a system restore, it randomly fixed itself again, just wondering what could be doing this. The only thing I've installed recently is the Larue screensaver.

You sure this isn't the issue?

Does it happen when coming out of that refreshes the screen (like exiting a game) or just at random while you're browsing it disappears?

It has only happened after leaving the computer alone for a long period of time (~8 hours). I don't think that's the issue, I'm running it on my laptop too, with no problems there.

what graphics card is in your computer? do you have the latest drivers?

try disabling the aero features of your theme and see if that solves it.

if so, see the above questions.

I can't figure out your background, but I can figure out your e-mail address from that little slice just fine.

So it is when you come out of something.

I'd check you video card drivers first.

What ATI card do you have?
