I am going to get the windows tinted on my new truck - Peterbilt 386.

I haven't had anything tinting in years.  What's the new hotness?  What's with the new metallic-looking stuff?  What do I want?  Why am I asking so many questions?

I obviously don't want anything silly- just good tint.

yup get as dark as the law allows just remember when backing up when its dark out it kinda sucks. especially when its cold out and you have your windows up!

also dont get the metallic shit. i used to work at an automotive accessory shop and the tint guy hated that stuff. he always said it was junk.

I'm bumping this for some questions.

Are the shops legally obligated to keep the tint legal?  I'm a LEO and I pretty sure that no one in our county has/uses a meter.

I have an appointment on thursday to get it done but am thinking about canceling until I can find someone who will go below the limit (no other shops in a 2-3 hour drive).

alot of shops will do darker than legal tint, just make sure not to mention your a LEO, and don't be an ass and pull someone over for less than legal tint if you yourself have it. be discreet about it.

I went to a shop last month and they were more than willing to go below the limit (50% here in MN ).  They explained the legal limit but didn't care if the customers wanted to go below that.  I would like to go 20% to match the rears, but I don't want any bullshit tickets.

I know I definitely don't want to mention LEO.  But like I said, I don't know about any meters in the entire county.  I'd have no way to get evidence on illegal tint without a meter so I wouldn't pull anyone over for it.

The gal I talked to at the shop said she wouldn't go below legal.

any local car clubs in your area, you may want to hit those up and ask around.

I'm going to ask at a local shop when I get a spray liner next week.  I asked around with people at work and as far as they know, there is only that one shop.

Go 1%.

You'll thank me later.

It's the most comfortable your car will ever be. Reduced heat, reduced glare, easier to read gauges....

I pulled a 21' trailer quite a few times––I had no problem seeing at night, or backing up at night with 1%.

We recently had the Tahoe's front windows done. I had them go 20% to come close to matching the rest. The shop advised me it was Illegal, and still did it.
