Okay, I'm using my old Win 95 laptop to get on the net.... as my XP desktop is messed up.

ABS computer
1.4 Athlon XP chip

Some how, when I turned it on, an error that pertains to Norton Antivirus popped up and now it doesn't run right.  The task bar doesn't show up, and hitting the window's key doesn't bring anything up.

I wanted to try to use the fix a previouse install of windows (via the CD), but it's asking me for an administrator password.  Well, I'm the owner, but  have never set one.  Is there a "universal" password?  I'm going to call ABS to see if they know... but I figure I'd ask if anyone knows.  OH, a friend tried to have me look it up via the control panel, but getting the "users" are not logged in right...something messed up there too.

Did you try just hitting return?  That worked on the new Dells we bought last summer.  They wouldn't boot when new.  We had to put the XP CD in and run the recovery.  If that fails, I've heard a Windows 2000 CD can be used to clear-out the admin password on an XP machine.z

I thought I tried that... just hitting return.  I'll have to see it works...because I thought I tried that.

I don't have a Win 2000 CD.....

I tried calling ABS today, but I was on hold for like 20+ min.  They must have been closed.  I'll have to call early tomorrow (8am).

Change your bios setting to boot from the CD drive.  Insert the XP setup disk and run a system recovery.

Well, the guys at ABS set me straight.  I was doing what they say...what ever it was, but some more errors came up.  I got the "blue screen of death" as I call it.  So, at that point, I just reinstalled an image I had from Nov.  Seems to be running fine.  I'm updating again..... that's what I get for updating and not making a new image.
