And what is it commonly used for?  I picked it up at an estate sale for cheap, and it runs.  What does it do, that an ordinary grinder wouldn't be used for?

Isn't it a old school machinest edge grinder for finish angles & tool edges?


eta: years ago when I worked at state park, had a simular looking tool on the bench we used to sharpen axes, shovels & whatnot when someone else had the benchgrinder tied up.

Taking another look at this, it has a large bit on the other side.  I wonder if this straddled another machine somehow?

I'm probably wrong, but I think that is the tool center block that holds cutting? bar/tools.


iircc there is some guys that do machinist stuff on here that know what all that tool is used for.

It looks like it is repurposed and shop built for grinding or polishing tapered key slots.
