Many people are scared shitless by AI. Some of the worst are found on ham radio forums, and hams are usually thought to be on the cutting edge of technology. This almost go me banned on one forum: ![]() |

For a year my band used crazy AI flyers and posters for shows. We decided to have an artist start making all our stuff, it's really similar as she is crazy talented, But people still comment on old show posters and how much they loved them.... People are told what to hate and what to love. Well at least the weak ones are and they follow in step. |
Dont call it a comeback, Been here for years.
|
I appreciate a well framed photo more than either old or new art. That's what goes on my walls. I know the places and the circumstances and those are the memories that they trigger. To me, that's a deeper connection than the half second visual impact of AI generated images. |
Get both is the answer.
|
The only thing about AI "art" that annoys me is when people/businesses/governments use it for flyers and such. An example of what I'm talking about: Attached File |
|
A lot of it is band wagon thinking. AI is a tool and how it gets used matters, this includes how self-aware AI might act in a destructive way which I think is likely even if unintentional. Art, Writing and music are the least of sane peoples worries. I'm more worried about it's destruction of employment/work force and it's use by despots and tyrants. |
| I don't think there is any one answer. Some people prefer art generated by people because their concept of art includes the product, the process, and the skill. Some people prefer art generated by people because of the economic and social reasons you mention. Some people prefer art generated by people because the history and context in which the art was generated is important to them. Art is inherently a subjective experience, so it's up to the individual to enjoy it as they see fit. |
We're getting close, real close. And now for some more bad news... Ready?
|
I think it's the perfect thing for events and advertisements. AI can just render the image in secs and can change and revise the image in mins. People can blow their pretend value fiat currency on analog art while others save thousands. Sorta like we still have theater plays, yet most people watch TV. Even better is for your new AI viewing experience you can decide the number of AI actors and their race, religion and sexual preference. Imagine star wars and carrie fisher replaced by Sydney Sweeney? Mark Hamell replaced with Chris Pratt? AI could even create a good last season of BattleStar Galactica and other shows that had crappy final seasons or episodes. Or even a option to add X rated scenes vs the R rated scenes. Imagine for example Jaba's Palace and how Princess Leia ended up in a bikini. Or Luke turns to the dark side and uses his force powers and crashes lando and Wedge before they could destroy the death star. |

When everything is fake, nothing is real. Just wait until pictures, audio, and video created by AI is completely indistinguishable from what is real. Politics will be forever ruined - conservatives will be portrayed as villains; communists will be portrayed as saviors. Our favorite politicians will spout unimaginable screed and spend all their time trying in vain to convince the electorate he/she never uttered those words. It's going to be great. |
To anger a conservative, tell him a lie; to anger a liberal, tell him the truth.

What I don't get is the people that think this is what AI "is". This is a tiny, inconsequential piece in the grand scheme of things. |

I think alot of people are just starting to come to shock that not all graphics were ever artistic in the first place. There is a skill involved in executing a plan that is admirable, like building a house to specs. But most truthfully artistic things are created in the PROCESS of creation far from what they ever intended to do going into it, and not the binary of idea and completion. AI wont ever replace art as it is not created using an artistic process. It never learns during a piece, only before and after, and because of this, ai will always be behind the human, and while on a closer leash as time goes by, it will always be drug behind the human as we advance into the future. I think professional artists will catch onto this eventually and make art in the absence of photography, refusing to display them anywhere a photo could be taken so that the ai can not train on their work, creating a weird sort of art club devoid of any reference of whats inside |

It's not just "Hey AI make me a image of xxxxxx" , I spend hours on it to get what i am happy with, no different than in the past when I used paint, photography, pencils, Photoshop or what ever I was using at the time, they are ALL tools and what is created is up to the person that uses that tool. |

With as little effort as possible. They consider a couple hours of typing prompts into a computer to be real effort and skill. And they’re proud of that “effort”. Fuck taking years to hone an actual physical skill and facing failure and setbacks along the way. I don’t hate AI art. But I don’t see any value in it, nor have I seen any that is particularly spectacular. It’s all middle of the road mall artist stuff, with even less effort put into it. It’s also why I find modern “art”, or brutalist architecture to be particularly off putting and bland. |

Let's say I have a building and in that building I employ 30 artists. I tell them what to paint. They go in, they paint it, they come back with 30 pieces of art that match my directives as best as they can. My job is just to either pick one, or tell them how they're wrong and send them back until they return with something that is more to my liking. Can I call myself the artist? |
I believe even our own resident Danish professor said much the same thing. Wuffo?
