Okay, I searched back three months on the Movie forum, so if this is a dupe, tough!

Just watched it today.  I haven't read the graphic novel so it's all new to me.  I watched it twice.
Good flick.  A little dark at the end, but good none the less.
I've seen the graphic novel compilation at the local Borders and wonder how much the movie left out.

Agreed.... Not happy with Rorschach and Dr Manhattans last scene..

Quite a bit, but I thought it was a very good representation of the main plot.  The manner in which Ozymandias brings peace to the world was significantly changed from the graphic novel, but actually made more sense in the film and wasn't a detractor at all, in my opinion.

You should definitely take the time to read the graphic novel when you get the chance.

How'd you watch it on Sunday when it doesn't come out on dvd/blu until Tuesday?

It's a decent flick. Very close to the graphic novel.

horrible story, almost a training film for jihadists.

mass murder, lie about who's at fault, kill your honest friends that will tell the truth,  and deceive the public on a massive scale, all to achieve the desired end:  (false) World Peace.

However, the ends do not, and never will, justify the means.

I liked both the movie and the graphic novel.
I like my superheroes more human than how DC plays it, and less traumatized like the Marvel heroes.

Anybody have comments on the extra 20 minutes the DVD people get? I am debating buying the DVD, but I might rent it instead.

I've had the extended cut DVDRip for about a month now. Haven't gotten around to watching it to compare to the theatrical release yet though.

The watchmen is officially my favorite movie of all time.  They take a lot from theories about the new world order, and up until that movie I had never really been able to contemplate how those that are pushing for a new world order believe that a third world war is necessary in order to establish lasting peace.

Without admitting to anything illegal, I could have seen it at the theater in the reduced price, not most recent release showings.

Ahh. I was curious, I used to live by a non-chain music/dvd store that would release their movies almost a week ahead of time.

Great movie.  I thought the changes from the graphic novel were improvements.  They couldn't fit everything from the novel into the movie, but what they did fit in was amazing.

Whether or not you've read the book this scene is something you should watch.

It really ties up a critical point left out in the show.

Where were the titties? I heard it had some! And I don't mean Dr. Manhatten's! I just didn't get it. I really thought this flick would be better with all the hype, but it wasn't. And i'm glad that the Comedian prick died. I only wish it had been more painful, because he obviosly deserved it. I'm really glad that this shitfest only cost me a dollar at the Redbox.

Just finished watching it........ long one, but I thought it was damn good.

they really seem to rip the liberal/utopian ideology, which was more or less just showing it for what it really is.

good flick, buying it fo sho.

When Night Owl fucked Silk Spetre in the ship.

Then at the end of the movie, Silk Spectre bought some DDs with her new peace dividend.
(Was that part of the plot or did they bring the actress back for another scene after she'd already spent her salary on new tits?)

I liked the movie BTW

I don't see how this movie can be so highly rated. My wife & I were both barely able to sit through the entire flick. We agreed that if we had seen it at the theater, we would have walked out.

  • Long, drawn out running time, with huge swatches of slow parts where absolutely nothing even remotely interesting occurs.

  • Wooden acting. Sounded like most of the actors phoned in their lines.

  • Unlikable characters. None of the characters in the film generated a single bit of sympathy or empathy, with one exception: Rorschach.

  • Several pieces of dialogue and short scenes had a distinctly America & Capitalism = Bad! and Green/Left = YAY! tone to them.

Agreed. I thought it was a terribly directed, poorly acted, irritatingly "artsy", and nauseatingly anti-American waste of time.

I thought the ending of the movie was better and made more sense than the ending in the book. I wonder if Alan Moore will ever sit down and watch it.  Probably not, but it would be interesting to hear his opinion since the overall message of the film is the same as the book, unlike his other work like V for Vendetta.

I'm with these people.  I think the movie sucked.

Words that come to my mind are - it sucked, gay (that's a bad thing), misogenistic, gratuitous violence, childish, ...

What a waste of time and money to make this piece of trash.

And did you notice how that plan was set into action by an Ultra Liberal, homosexual, intellectual elitist Commie or did you just lump all of the characters into that category?

As for the Gratuitous violence, that was the point of the Comedian.  His name was a juxtaposition in itself, and his character in the movie was to blatantly represent that no matter how you try and mask it, 'humans are savage by nature'.

Rorschach got the last laugh anyway, doesn't matter if he died or not, his journal still fell into the hands of the right wing Newspaper, the New Frontier.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.  The movie went out of its way to make the Liberals the bad guys and to show how the common sheep will take anything the government throws at them and do nothing about it.

Just got done watching the DVD.  I thought it was pretty awesome and didn't have any sort of philosophical problems with anything in the story line.  Oh, and though it didn't actually show much, the sex scene between Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl II on the spaceship was fucking awesome.

Wow some of you guys really make me go

I'm not saying it was the best movie ever but it was a damn good movie. Zach Snyder is practically an Arfcommer. Look at the main villain. It shows how far a hippie liberal Utopian asshole that thinks he's so much smarter and better than everybody else is willing to go to achieve his goals, even if it involves the murder of his friends and millions of innocents to spin a lie and make them falsely believe something. Watched 15 minutes and turned it off... please. You're not qualified to comment on the movie then. Even I sat through till the credits rolled on 2 Fast 2 Furious. At least then I could say what a piece of shit retarded movie it was.

ETA: I couldn't leave well enough alone. In response to 15 minute-man...who watches the first 15 minutes of this movie and then turns it off? I mean, I could understand if it was 15 minutes of the middle, but the first fifteen minutes? The whole historical montage? The fight in the high-rise apartment? That didn't at all spark your interest?

Like I said, Roarschack was the only really good think in the movie. Other than that, I got more out of SS1's and The Comedian's twisted and messed-up relationship than I did out of anything else in the movie, with the exception of the Dr. Strangelove war room.

I'm a sucker for a good Strangelove nod, and this one takes the cake!

Rorshach did it for me.  Once the mask came off, the face underneath did NOT look like a hero, and that's probably why I was impressed.
Oh... and the "You don't understand.  I'm not locked in here with YOU, you're locked in here with ME" thing as well.

THIS MOVIE SUCKED.

For cryin' out loud! I've seen cheesy porno flicks that had better plots, better acting, and not nearly as much swinging dick as this putrid POS.

Long, boring, pointless, stupid, and incoherent is about the best I can say. I want my time back!

OK. I liked this movie for the most part...but I have a question. Was that a harp on reagan/conservatism at the very end, when they are at the newspaper talking about how everything is hippie love in the world now and then they were going to elect Reagan soon? Maybe I am reading in to it too much now, as I have been conditioned to look for a left wing twist to everything now, but with this one I wasn't sure if I am being paranoid, or if it is just there. Any thoughts?

It was a conservative newspaper so they are going to talk just like arfcommers.  Consider The Frontiersmen bretheren.

One other detail you should look at during the ending, the establishing shot of the exterior of that newspaper office.  Huge reconstruction efforts with the name "Veidt" plastered everywhere.  Kinda makes you think even more about Ozy's true intentions.
