Will any of us be able to pull ourselves away from the computer? I might have a serious problem...

I can't imagine how people get fat surfing the internet for hours on end... I can't pull myself away long enough to feed myself.

Between getting to the SHTF holdout position, securing a perimeter, and surviving in the frozen wilderness for the remainder of our shortened lives, I doubt we'll even notice.

Oh, you mean will we even notice that it has hit the fan?  Probably not, until we ask these questions:

1.  ARFCOM's down AGAIN?!
2.  And now the power?  sdajkl;adsjkkf;ldsjadsfkl;kjsfd;ladfsjk;ldfsjsdlkjksd;l
3.  (looking outside)  Wow, the whole block's out.  And there's fires all over the place.  Are those...roving bands of looters?

I think that most of us realize that MOST human beings will not even realize that it has even hit the fan until FAR after it's too late. Depending upon your view of what will happen, it's getting a little late RIGHT NOW to start preparations. If you haven't done much to prepare, then get off your internet-grewn ass and get on it! The time is short... (I'd be willing to bet that it's shorter than most think.)

Why?

I don't know... I kind of think if the SHTF in the sense of a collapse in social order, people will kill theselves pretty quick. As long as you can hole up long enough for people to reduce their numbers enough that you can leave and fight. I would venture a guess that, at least in my area, the shit would hit the fan downtown in Blatimore and work it's way out. The animals would trash everything in the city and then, once they are bored with vandalizing, they'll work on looting everything, which, for people who think this way, would go somewhere that has everything... malls, Wally Worlds, Best Buy, car lots, etc. I'd like to think that the gun store owners would hole themselves in their shops and pretty much thin out the opposition from their position. At least until the crazies burned the place down...

I'd certainly stay off the street because people would be driving like assholes to get away... odds of getting killed in a car wreck are probably better than if you stayed at home.

The biggest question, then, is how long before the animals are killed off by LEO that try to keep things together, or until they kill themslves in all the madness.  What is a safe wait time... a few days? Wee? Month? How long was L.A. under siege during the whole Rodney King trials.

Why?

Just a "feeling" on my part mostly. I "feel" the quickening of the passage of time. (Yeah I know, time is constant.) I see humanity and many in this country getting duller of mind and forgetful of whats really important in life. Things just sort of seem to "sneak-up" on the masses. Many are caught unaware. There were MANY events leading up to 9/11 (1st WTC bombing, U.S.S Cole, Kobar Towers, etc) that should not have just been waved-off and forgotten by the public and government security agencies. But they were. And 9/11 took us by surprize! Why? It was just a larger-scale event than the others.

People are NOT being dilligent in keeping their eyes open and in trying to be prepared for catastrophe. Most are as clueless of what goes on around them as are cattle grazing on the pasture. They may stop and lift their head long enough to see what's up at any loud noise or such, but they always resume their grazing and don't trouble themselves with what's coming next. It's one of the reasons that this board is somewhere I enjoy hanging-out (most of the time anyways). Most people here are little more proactive about life and the preservation of it.

It was said several years ago, midway through 2001, before I ever actually signed up here, that we'd all know SHTF had occured when AR15.com went down.
I loaded mags feverishly and wondered when the power would go out here, first time AR15.com went down.  I don't respond with such intensity anymore

It's just because fat people are so ingenious at what they do.

For example, you might plan ahead for SHTF (some extra food stuffs, guns, ammo, a plan, etc..).  Fat people plan for AHTC (Ass hits the chair)!! Ahead of time, they stash twinkies, kit kats, hershey kisses, ding dongs, chips, etc. in their desk.  Then, all day long they simply draw from this stash without needing to get up at all.  And the best part, to throw off their coworkers they'll get a salad at lunch and try to claim that's all they ate all day.

You forgot to mention that they drink mountain dew and piss in the empty bottles.
