So I stand in line for 5 mins. w/ ballot go to the "booth" , no machine at all ! It was just like kindergarten you fill in the box next to your choice w/ a pen . There was one electronic machine . Nobody used it . Then per instructions I placed the ballot " This side up , colored stripe toward you " in a big tin box . Just like voting for 3rd grade Jr. Fire Chief Lord if the people voting can't get that much , I don't want their sorry assed opinion . |

From what I've seen your experience is the exception rather than the rule. A five minute wait is definitely the exception! The last time I voted the line took over two hours, and most people I know don't vote because they can't take time off of work to do so. The polls here close early so if you have a job it's hard to vote. Then you have to get past the cranky old women. The last three times I've voted I had to insist on being allowed to vote after being told I wouldn't be allowed to. They turn away a lot of registered votes because of nitpicks about the not so durable paper registration cards or the fact that they have trouble reading the small, light print on the list of registered voters. There really should be a reading test before being allowed to work a poll. The touchscreen machines are another hassle. Two years ago almost half of them weren't used because they didn't work. While waiting in line, I saw them lock-up several times. The touchscreens used are absolute crap. You have to press down so hard that many people had trouble getting their votes to register. I used the stylus from my PDA so I didn't have a problem. FUBAR is a good description of the mess. I might not get to vote today. I waited in line over an hour from 8:30AM until about 9:40AM. After noticing it had been almost 20 minutes since a single person left the room with the machines, I gave-up. I'm headed back at 3PM. Maybe they'll have more machines working by then.z |
