| You've seen 'em. You know 'em. But do you REALLY know 'em? |

| Actually, if you look at Consumer Reports(CU), the Volvos aren't fairing too well there. There are mucho black marks all over the place. And many Volvos are getting a black mark overall for reliability, which is bad, because people are paying some serious bucks for a car that is not all that reliable. |
That one is the 3rd wagon I've owned. I sent the previous 2 "out to pasture" with my parents in Louisiana where they don't salt roads. The running gear will easily make 500k miles. Running around the east coast the body only lasts to 250k. Spent a bit of time in the junk yard and saw a whole lot of cars smashed up. Looking at smashed up Volvos was a great confidence builder. Between 1987 and 1989 there were NO fatalities in Volvo 240 series cars of those years. Its tragic that the laws mandating SIPS killed the line in 1993. If they sold a new 240 today I'd consider buying a new one. Since they don't I'm stuck with the used ones. They're as simple as a farm tractor to work on. My wife got an 85 Mercedes Benz 300D and the difference in design philosophy is stark. The Volvo is refined simplicity and reliability. Function over form in every way. I have trouble considering the front wheel drive Volvos to be in the same class and the post-Ford lineup might as well be another company entirely. Volvo really is a great example of the importance of knowing your market. |

I know the stereotype with the owners, but I'm not sure what to make of it. It DOES seem like a certain type of person is drawn to them. Same with Apple computers. There's a correlation there, but it doesn't predict anything all on it's own. After all, plenty of Arfcommers drive Volvos. In a similar vein, it's a safe bet that the person driving a raised 1976 Chevy truck isn't a hippie or a soccer mom, you know? It's not guaranteed, but you can certainly make an educated guess. |
What model? BTW, ford owns volvo now, so that may explain your maintenance problems. My older ones didn't require much mainenance. |

HAI U!!!!!!!!!! Mah car is teh shit!!!!! 91 740 SW. 260000 miles. Needs new fluids like, 10000 miles ago, still runs great. That thing is a tank. ETA: I will say this though. I'm sure they aren't making them like they used to. Some of the parts in my car not only come from GERMANY!!!, but WEST GERMANY!!!!!! |

A friend of mine got rear ended in Seattle traffic. She was driving a early 80's 240 series wagon and was stopped. Some moron was driving a suburban at full freeway speed, never hit the brakes and totaled her car and the five in front of her. She survived though she was hurting pretty bad. Any other car and I'm sure she would be dead. I voted moonbat MILF but I think MILF with plants would be more accurate. Shes has LOTS of plants. I should add, that she is also conservative. Buy Volvo - They're Boxy but they're good. |
