Just got infected by the "Privacy Protection" malware/virus. I'm not sure how I picked it up since I keep to the same websites for the most part (save venturing into prep related sites and blogs), and run Microsoft Security Essentials.
Reboot in Safe Mode with Networking (keep hitting F8, before you get the Starting Windows screen). I downloaded Malwarebytes(.org), free version, and that got rid of it along with manually taking out the entries in the Registry (regedit from the Run option). HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\{random} HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN | Privacy Protection Hopefully this will save you some headaches. It took me about 30 minutes trying other programs and searching before finding this solution. So far seems to be doing good. |
