[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Video from fired ups worker (Page 1 of 2)
|
Started off working at UPS as a loader in college then after a year or so was promoted to a supervisor until I graduated. Great job for any college student. Early hours for me so I could still take classes, pays decent, and has some tuition assistance. This guy sounds like a whiny little bitch. He said he has worked there for a few weeks and is already a superior authority on the company. I wasn't the most in shape when I started, but it is easily doable if you have half a brain in your head and decently fit. The hours did suck during peak season, but I signed up for it... As did this dumb ass. |

Why do people feel the need to come into a thread about a video and add absolutely nothing to the conversation by saying they aren't going to watch the video? I lost IQ points watching the video. Osprey was just pointing out that others should heed his advice by not watching the stupid, retarded, ass-wipe fucktard whining about how evil corporate America is. If it saves just one Arfcommer... |

I worked as an unloaded there for 2 years and was able to unload so fast they used to send people to record me. My brother in law was a supervisor there at the time and he told me that they wanted to see my form. First I'd unload the 53' trucks for an hour, then I'd go to metro 3 and unload all of the delivery trucks. When I finished metro 3 I'd jump onto metro 5 to help that guy out then the 2 of us would head over to metro 2 to finish that.
I'd be completely soaked with sweat but I was in amazing shape. This guy says he's lifting 50, 60, 70 even 80 lb boxes all night. Not true. They have special people to handle oversized /overweight loads and the conveyer system wouldn't handle heavy boxes like that. Most boxes realistically weigh less than 5 lbs and probably closer to 1 lb. |

Guy sounds like he doesn't know what a job is. That said, I've known a couple of drivers and one mechanic who all told stories about extreme time management.
The mechanic said if a driver gets any scrapes or even minor scratches the driver is written up for termination purposes. My UPS guy had to bid/buy his route. |

Most boxes realistically weigh less than 5 lbs and probably closer to 1 lb. Anyone could unload fast. I could sort fast. I worked at UPS for 8 years. Started as a loader and left as a sorter. I have a good memory and could read multiple labels ahead and knock them out as fast as unloaders could put them out. I could also run my mouth while doing so which really pissed off the unloaders. I started to deliver Saturday next day air to get my foot on the door as a driver. I did that for a few years and UPS put up a Driver intent sign up sheet which I signed, only to be fucked over. They hired nobody from within and instead hired 40ish guys off the street who had no time in at UPS. I told them to fuck off and quit. |

I don't know shit about working at UPS but I have young guys on my crew that did work there and they said the
job is a fast paced job that is nuts at first but you get use to it. The biggest complaint I always heard wasn't about the working conditions but about how they treat their seasonal workers . I guess it's pretty bad |

Haha. What did the guy expect? I think a lot of people think it's a foot in the door where they will have a shot at a full time position with benefits . From what I was told it's almost impossible to get in full time now. It's just a grind spit them out and hire all over again kind of place to work at. Doesn't sound like a good place to work unless you have the dollars to buy a route. |
| I worked for UPS out of high school loading and unloading trucks. Easily the most physically demanding job by far I have ever done and I've worked in the oil fields all my life. Unloading a fully loaded ups truck in 20 min makes working derricks seem like a day care. |

it's everything he said, I quit after two weeks, fuck that level of manual labor. It convinced me to get a degree, for better or worse. Work won't kill you. Yeah, but it's hard and makes your muscles hurt |

As did this dumb ass. Worked at UPS for 5 years. 1 year as hourly package loader then 4 years as a part time supervisor. In 5 years 2 cwnter managers were fired for editing time cards and stealing from employees. That shit doesnt happen without getting some kind of pressure from up the chain. The hourly union employees are largely not bad but the random shit head slug makes it unbearable. There were at least a few doper/methheads that managed to finally find a job that made use of them naturally being up during that time. The other management was largely assholes. Being a part time supervisor between the two was horrible. My last year there I told as many prospective hourly employees, that were being farmed for part time supervisor, the horrors of working the part time management gig and how it was not a good idea. Screw UPS. They suck. For those that have done the job... First yearI started was in september on a set that had 3 800 series trucks... that was during the "chart knowledge" years with sequence numbers. My heavy assed routes were at the front of the belt behind a set where an angry asshole guy missed every other package. So now I have packages for his route that I catch getting passed to him only to have it dumped at his feet and not loaded in his truck. If I missed the package of his somebody else caught it and dumped it at the end of my set. So I would have no room for any of my bulk items to put on the dock for tail loading. Meanwhile I am getting screamed at by management to clean up a mess that wasnt even mine. My facility was one where within a year you started to go to package driving/helper for saturdays. I felt robbed and lied to by management on what part time supervisor opportunities were supposed to be versuses reality. |
