I recently purchased a JVC camcorder that came with it's own special software to playback the video's. Well, I had to reload windows and I lost the disc that came with the camcorder. Now I'm pissed. Why in the hell do these damn companies do this shit? Yeah, I lost the software but but with all of the standards out there why do they create their "own"?!?!?!?! Does anyone know have/use the JVC Everio camcorder? Can I get some other software that will playback/edit the videos?

There are two standards currently two compression methods that dominate for digital cameras - MPEG2 and AVCHD (MPEG4 aka H.264). The outside "wrapper" is easy enough to change once you get the correct MPEG standard. MPEG2 is the older standard and it's been around for 10 years. MPEG4 is a newer technology and cameras using it have been out for a couple of years.
I have a couple AVCHD cameras that shoot in MPEG4. I attempted to use my Avid Liquid editor and it can't spell HD or MPEG4. I bought Adobe Premiere 8 and it won't work with my Realtec sound card nor my NVIDIA GX260 video card - there's some sort of bug that Adobe has refused to address so the program crashes every few minutes. I bought Sony Vegas Movie and it's fast, doesn't crash, works with by older MPEG2 and newer MPEG4 files and isn't that hard to learn. |

Get Adobe After Effects to add any "star wars" type effects to your movies. |

Quoted: I usually copy all of my software onto a thumb drive. Oops.. Didn't this time. Lots of video editing software out there. I will point out that if you buy one it will come on a disc just like your last piece of software. Do try not to lose the disc. I use Ulead myself. |
