I wish so much of 'MAGA' wasnt so infantile as to completely ignore the need to think tactically and strategically.  Instead they are near identical to the left in that they would rather just blow up the system to rebuild it.  Right wing Saul Alinsky shit instead of actual reform.

Many of us warned about the need to get things done and to think about mid-terms and off year elections.  No one seemed to listen.

stop being ridiculous.

VA is a democrat stronghold and it has been for two decades.  Youngkin was an anomaly.

A democrat state elected a democrat governor and a democrat legislature, going right back to the status quo from before Youngkin.  Democrat state moves further to left.  In other news the sky is blue and water is wet.

In 2015 the Republicans had about twice as many people in the House. Senate we back and fourth with slim margins on each side.

It has been trending Democrat and I think at this point it has largely solidified as a Democrat state.

VA legislators to push for stronger gun laws with new state administration
View Quote

Virginia Democrats are wasting no time and are getting things ready for next year’s General Assembly after Tuesday’s sweeping win in the state elections.

One of the big pushes expected to come with the next year’s session is gun control legislation, after many bills have faced vetoes from the current administration.

State Senator Creigh Deeds said there is a lot of work to get done between now and the next session, and their priority is making sure they build legislation that can not only pass through the General Assembly but will also be effective for Virginians.

“It’s intensified in the last few days. Honestly, on this day, I have already had to, by the middle of the day, four meetings already on different bills and ideas we are working on,” Deeds said.

Deeds said there is a common misconception when it comes to how they are addressing gun legislation.

“We want to respect people’s constitutional rights, but we want to keep our communities as safe as we can,” Deeds said.

Executive Director Angela Ferrell-Zabala with Moms Demand Action says there are solutions that don’t impede on Virginians' Second Amendment rights to own firearms.

“We have many gun owners and folk apart from our advocacy that know what it means to be a responsible gun owner. We want to make sure that if you are a gun owner, you are a responsible gun owner,” Ferrell-Zabala said. “That there are policies put in place that protect our community, our civilians across the commonwealth."

Deeds says there is still a lot of work to be done to continue to find this balance. Along with cracking down on people leaving guns unlocked in cars, and extending waiting periods when purchasing a gun, Deeds says another priority is addressing gun concerns at universities.

“Among the bills will be the legislation that Delegate [Katrina] Callsen and I have carried to address the shootings at University of Virginia, to give police the ability to investigate those cases, and that's by making possession of a firearm on a university campus a Class I misdemeanor,” Deeds said.

Deeds says this has been a bill years in the making, and currently it’s up to university boards to decide how guns are regulated on campuses.

This is just great;

From Bearing Arms -

""What can we expect to see this week? It's possible that Democrats will hold off on introducing their onslaught of anti-gun legislation until we're closer to the session's start for tactical purposes (i.e., to try to keep gun owners from mobilizing and re-starting the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement), but before the 2026 session is gaveled in we're definitely going to see a ban on so-called assault weapons. In fact, I expect several different versions of an "assault weapon" ban with varying components will be introduced. There are a lot of rumors floating around that one bill won't have any exceptions for current owners, who would be forced to turn their guns in, remove them from the state, or risk criminal charges.

In 2020, then-Gov. Ralph Northam pushed for a semi-auto ban that would have affected current owners, but ultimately backed off in the hopes of bringing rural Democrats on board. Instead, a handful of Democrat state senators objected to any gun ban bill, and Democrats had to settle for a score of smaller victories, including the establishment of a "red flag" law, "universal" background checks, and a weakening of the state's firearm preemption laws.

Sen. Creigh Deeds, who was one of those objectors five years ago, actually authored an "assault weapons" ban this past session, and there is currently no indication that any Democrat lawmaker in the state would oppose a semi-auto ban, though there may be some fights about the specifics of the legislation.

In addition to a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, we can expect a prohibition on commonly-owned magazines that can hold more than ten rounds... and once again, there's no guarantee that existing owners will be exempted.

I'm anticipating multiple bills regulating the storage of firearms, including measures so severe that gun owners would be forced to either actively carry a firearm on their person within their home or keep their gun locked up and unloaded.

We're also likely to see a permit-to-purchase scheme that's substantially similar or identical to the Handgun Qualification License in Maryland. That would require anyone hoping to purchase a pistol to undergo firearms training, including a live-fire test, submit fingerprints, pay a fee, and wait for 30 days (or more) for the Virginia State Police or their county sheriff to issue them a permission slip allowing them to purchase a handgun. They will push hard for AW and LCM (large capacity magazine) bans, per inside VA Dem source. They’re citing a “significant” body of public heath “research” to justify new legislation.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6836798/

https://publichealth.jmir.org/2024/1/e62952

Do not expect grandfathering of AWs and LCMs.
Dems claim grandfathering of existing AWs and LCMs, along with historically watered-down AW bans based solely on cosmetic features, as the reasons for a thus-far limited impact on “gun violence.” Further, researchers believe it will take time for existing LCMs and AWs to “wear out,” and show a reduction in “gun violence” stats.

Again, DO NOT EXPECT GRANDFATHERING. Registration of existing AWs and LCMs is also being discussed, per VA Dem source, but a NY SAFE Act-like ban/surrender  law is their goal.

Registration always leads to confiscation. Think Australia, and plan accordingly.

For the TLDW crowd, Freitas believes at a minimum we’ll see LCM ban and grandfathered AW ban, of which violations are felonies, ie lose you RKBA, vote, professional license, etc.

If they get a "high capacity" magazine ban, they will come back again in a few years claiming that 10 round mags are "high capacity" too and need to be banned.   Their ultimate goal is to make it literally impossible to even own a gun, and you will be relegated to an over/under shotgun, bolt action rifle, or a revolver....all of course needing to be registered and the individual owner licensed annually at a cost of hundreds of dollars.  All the while they will claim they support the second amendment with photos of Tim Waltz pretending to be hunting.

All spot on with the exception of the Va Democrat leaders I've talked to who told me they would not support any gun legislation unless it works toward a total gun ban because that is the only thing that is going to work.

Spanberger is less radical and more smart. She won't be supporting any new law that pisses off every single gun owner in the entire state. She will probably mostly only go after AR-15s adn the rest of the gun owners won't care.

VIRGINIA’S GUN RIGHTS ARE UNDER SIEGE
https://www.gunowners.org/sa111325/

I won’t mince words here. We lost a battle on November 4th, and the situation in Virginia is dire.

Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones will soon be sworn into power, and you can bet they are already plotting to strip Virginians of their Second Amendment rights.

Under Governor Youngkin, we dodged a slew of bullets when he vetoed over 27 anti-gun bills. Gov-elect Spanberger will not hesitate to reward her gun control extremists friends. And keep this frightening fact in mind: according to Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action “former volunteers make up 20 percent of the Virginia House Democratic Caucus.”

Let that sink in.

A group of radical anti-gun Democrats now control the Governor’s office, the General Assembly, and the Senate. With Lt. Governor-elect Hashmi able to break ties in the Senate, there is effectively no firewall to stop gun-control legislation.

In 2019-2020, Democrats voted unanimously for every gun-control bill and against every pro-gun bill. In 2026, you can expect the same.

The bills we will be fighting, from a semi-auto ban, red flag laws, gun owner registration and more, are unconstitutional, dangerous, and obviously designed to disarm law-abiding Virginians like you.

This is the un-sugarcoated bad news. Things will likely get worse before they get better. Like I said, we lost a battle.

But things WILL get better, because the war is not over!

Because the Commonwealth is still filled with Patriots like you.

Unfortunately, too many of them stayed home on election day. But they’re still out there, and with your help, we intend to bring them back into the fold.

There Will Be Another Election!

We already have our eye on the crucial 2027 elections, when the entire Virginia Senate as well as the Assembly, will be on the ballot.

It could be tempting to throw up one’s hands in disgust, but what we really need to do is put our hands the plow.

The only way to stop the gun-control agenda long-term is to elect leaders who respect the Second Amendment. And that takes work.

Democrats flipped 13 seats this year. Many of those, and possibly some others, can flip the other way.

Do you remember the Lobby Day in Richmond in 2020, hosted by our friends at VCDL, after the bloodbath we took in the 2019 election?

Over 50,000 gun owners showed up, the largest gun-rights rally in American history.

And in the subsequent election, 7 anti-gunners were thrown out of office.

The next Lobby Day is January 19, 2026, starting at 8 a.m., with a rally at the Bell Tower at 11 a.m.

GOA will be there, and I hope you will be, too.

“We’ll See You in Court”

GOA and its partners are already reviewing legal strategies. While we don’t make these conversations public, we can share GOA’s a few recent legal victories, including a huge one right here in Virgina:

In Virginia, our legal team got the state’s Universal Registration Checks struck down.
In Tennessee, we convinced a three-judge panel to turn entire state into the 29th Constitutional Carry state. We are now defending that victory on appeal.
And legal victories from New York to California have now made it easier for GOA members to travel armed across the country.
Litigation is expensive, but we can win, and we do win.
We Must Take Action NOW

Virginia’s gun owners cannot afford to wait. Spanberger, Hashmi, and Jones are ready to push their extreme gun-control agenda.

We need your immediate support to fight back. 2026 is going to be a busy, brutal year and we must have the resources to fight:

While that’s true, you can no longer purchase “assault rifles”, stand cap mags or high capacity shotguns.  It’s also a crap shoot if you take your unregistered weapons described above to a public range and risk the state police showing up to do a “your papers please” compliance check on your weapons and find they are unregistered.  There are many pitfalls although, so far, I have not seen much public enforcement of Illinois bans.  I suspect that will drastically change if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the bans.  Or if Pritzker gets the democrat nomination.  If he somehow gets elected President expect nationwide bans of everything.

They are playing the long game. The diehards will die off, and the new blood will never miss what they never had. Check mate.

You haven't been paying attention. That only works for the Left.
Think about the George Floyd riots. What would have been the response if it had been a Right-wing cause that drove people into the streets?
The blood would have been waist deep in the storm drains by sundown of the first day.
The only thing that you can guess about a broken down old man... is that he is a survivor.
The man is heartless and jaded. By this point he's probably comfortable with it. - SmilingBandit

I think it’ll be interesting to see exactly where things land. Could be a lot of people end up surprised by the overall outcome.

Time will tell.

Based upon the law in VA, they have to pass that in two legislative sessions before it can be put on the state ballot.  They tried to pull a fast one and pass it once before this 2025 election so that the could pass it again in January and the put it out for the state along with midterms.  To my knowledge, they didn't get it done this time, so hopefully, it will not be on the ballot until 2027.

Maybe we can do like the libs in Utah did.  Draw our own map, file a lawsuit, and have a judge just give us what we want.

She is no moderate, the mask will come off very quickly.  I somehow got on her email list.  I didn't unsubscribe so that I can keep tabs on what's going on.  Whoever is writing her stuff doesn't even paint her as a moderate.  You really think she "cares about all Virginians"?

She raised tons of money and there are lots of strings attached.

I have a feeling they’re going to go hard and they’ll do it quickly to sow as much confusion and chaos as possible.

We’ll separating the Men from the boys fairly quickly. In some ways it’s already starting.
