I'm not trying to troll here. I actually hope I'm very wrong.

How is this allowed?  It's on a local PD cruiser. I understand it's a sign of respect and has very good intentions behind it, I'm just curious how it's permitted. If someone can quote the section that permits this, I'd appreciate it.

§176. Respect for flag
(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

It's done all the time. Here's a possible answer: Is it a flag, or a representation of the flag?

The 'Flag Code' is NOT law, it is a set of guidelines.

Just as bad as people flying the flag upside down. Which I also don't care about.

Exactly. And even if it were law, the police would be above it.

idiots   just have you're own  police flag on the side.....  It's disrespectful to the ones that died for it.     where would it stop     gay cops having a rainbow striped .   firefighters adding flames.......  EMS having blood splatter .....

It's the new flag etiquette:  no one seems to care any more about showing respect for The Flag of The United States of America.

Cases in point:  athletes running around with flags draped across their bodies and clothing with a flag or flags in them.

So I guess you just have to go with if it's not an actual meant-to-be-flown-on-a-flagpole flag, it's a representation of a flag.

I think when thy say "The Flag" they mean an actual flag that flies or has flown

You dont cut pieces from it and attach it to anything or attach anything to a flag

You dont make clothes out of an actual flag

You dont do anything with an actual flag except fly it, store it and burn it when tattered
