Their goal was a mistrial (which they think means "not guilty"). They would have just had them whine about something else to portray what "real strong and powerful women deciding a murder insanity trial" think and do, meaning all women should try to emulate their behavior.  I'm still blown away where they think the husband would be charged, or there was a "not guilty" option. The trial was "No contest the murder charges, requesting lenience due to post partum psychosis" and so they were trying to get either insane or fit for sentencing trial options. Meanwhile, the daytime TV people think they can just make up their own shit and it would happen. I stand with the others above where this shit needs to be shut down, from the judge to the lawyer and ALL of the jurors who either were using social media during the trial or spoke with media after the mistrial to crucify the one against their vote. Week later and there's still nobody saying STFU and charging them for continuing to make a mockery of the legal system. As others have pointed out, she's a nurse, so should have known how to cut her wrists properly. She took the kids into the basement and strangled them. (still makes me nauseous to think about it). Why didn't she just hang herself in the basement with the kids? Would have likely been more definitive over 'crawling out a window'. |

The Looney Tunes motion filed yesterday by Kevin "Shooter McGavin" Reddington to investigate Michael is not just an attack on Michael for being the courageous lone holdout juror. Reddington's motion is actually a full-frontal attack on the U.S. Constitution. Because if the new normal is that jurors are going to face brutal reprisals for disagreeing with a defense attorney, you can kiss the Sixth Amendment goodbye. To anyone who thinks that Reddington's motion is OK, just remember that the tables will inevitably turn. Imagine a similar trial sometime in the not too distant future where it is the reverse scenario: 11-1 in favor of guilty, with one holdout favoring not guilty by reason of insanity. I doubt you folks would be alright if the District Attorney then filed a motion to investigate that lone holdout standing in the way of a conviction. That's why this is actually not a partisan issue. Really, this is a "do we still want to have a Sixth Amendment" issue. If you are like me and believe steadfastly in the Constitution, it's easy to see how, regardless of your party affiliation, this is an absolutely terrible path of ruin Reddington wants to take us down. If we follow his destructive proposal to its logical conclusion, we're going to have an endless cycle of prosecutors investigating holdouts who oppose "guilty" and defense attorneys investigating holdouts who oppose "not guilty." The judge lost control of the case, and lost control of what was stated in open court, in public - an improper jury question that should never have been read in open court as it was, the singling out of jurors, et cetera. It's contemptuous. The cell phone stuff, all of it. The judge should recognize it, himself, and send out invitations to the other two participants to report to xyz jail, where they can sit for wxy hours, and chat about how they got there. Defense should have recognized that juror question shouldn't be read in open court like that. The Clerk is in charge of / delegated aspects of jury mechanics/protections/behaviors - I think the word guardian is often used. That clearly failed here. A lot of things failed. I'm not sure I can say exactly what, but I think these 3 plank-holders should get together for an After Action Report and sone Lessons Learned for the sake of uh, synergy, process improvement, some other bullshit jargon, but most importantly, some fucking personal reflection time about how not to suck so badly in the future. I mean, holy shit, a bunch of 20 year-old kids are held to a higher standard than this government funded shit show.  And, if nothing else, maybe the Judge and the Clerk can help Defense Counsel strategize on how he can pay back that $2.3M he owes in back taxes. |
