I used to have a catalog that sold a firestarter kit that contained two bottles of some type of chemicals. When the two were mixed together, and poured on kindling, a fire would start from the reaction.

I must have thrown the catalog away. Anyone know who sells this kit?

Anyone know what the two chemicals might be? I recall it was rather expensive.

Thanks HW

too much to carry or remember... use a lighter instead... one part and easy to use. [;)]

You can buy that stuff at your local camping store. REI stocks that stuff here in the PRK. I think it cost something like $10.

Dave's gourmet 'Insanity Sauce' & Bourbon will make fire of a different kind.

Try the Ultimate Insanity Sauce. The bottle comes in a little wooden coffin and it roughly three times hotter than the regular insanity sauce.

"It fell out of my burning ring of fire. I sreamed 'OW, ow, ow' as the flames grew higher. It burns, burns, burns, my ring of fire, my ring of fire."
Dave's Insanity Sauce, for people that feel 15% Pepper Spray is just too "mild" for table use.

Hey, I remember doing that reaction in Chemistry class.  I didn't think it was that easy to get KPerm.

Where do they sell it?

Heck, you can get almost anything through science supply stores.

My wife was a science teacher, and I used to browse through her catalogs looking for cool stuff to buy.

The chemicals were a bit expensive though.  I imagine a bulk supplier would be cheaper, but harder to swing.

Be safe.  Be smart.  Don't burn anything I wouldn't.

Isn't KMNO4 (Potassium Permanganate) that purple stuff?  I seem to remember using it before.

IIRC, KPerm is a purple crystal available at pet stores as a treatment for a fish fungus called "ick"

Due to the "war on drugs" potassium permanganate has become a controlled chemical. If you buy the stuff the seller is supposed to register the purchase with the feds.
