Amarillo authorities have responded to two dog attacks in as many days, including an incident that prompted a police officer to shoot and kill an animal.

Officers were dispatched Sunday at 8:05 p.m. to the 200 block of South McMasters Street on a call about someone refusing to leave a home, Amarillo police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld said.

When a pair of officers arrived, a sign on the door instructed them to go to the back door.

They went into the backyard, but a woman across the street waved to them, Neufeld said. One officer went to talk to her and the other continued to the back door. That's when the dog, described in the police report as a pit bull or mixed-breed dog, emerged and lunged toward the officer, Neufeld said.

The officer fired twice at the dog, striking it in the back and the head.

Monday, another incident involving dogs was reported.

Story continues

The officer works with me part time at a gun shop where I work and told me all about this incedent.  He shot the dog at about 3 yards with his glock 21sf using Speer Gold dots.  One shot spun the dog around but after that it still charged him.  He the shot it just below the ear and that put him down.

The owner was distraught over the loss of her dog, not really pissed at the officer.

I don't make any judgements about what kinds of dogs people own.
