Everything is hotly charged today but I have a lawn that I really want to make better.

Posted in the outdoor section with no replies.

I have over an acre of Zoysia sod and over the last three years everything I have done seems to make it worse.  If you have purchased sod to cover an acre you know that is a decent financial investment.  I am tired of spending <$500 a year to make my turf  nice.

I am thinking of hiring TruGreen has anybody else done this and was it money well spent?

Screw those guys.

This is what works:

Turflon Ester
Tenacity
Acclaim
4 gallon backpack sprayer

Mix as directed and spray your yard 3 times between March and September. Fertilize at the usual intervals.

I have no weeds.

TruGreen is going to cost you more than 500.00 a year. I thought Zoysia was a simple grass, contact your local Extension Agent and let them give you some ideas.

Here is my recipe for a great lawn.  I refuse to pay someone to drop chems.

Jonathan Green grass seed
Scotts 4 step fertilizer
1-2 inch per week of water
Slice seed in the fall with more JG grass seed
De-thatch in the spring
Never rake or bag clippings after mowing.

Hope this helps.

I'm receiving bad service from them right now. Signed up for a years worth of treatments from a door to door salesman. $30/month and they spray every other month. Supposed to spray for a wide range of weeds and bugs. They show up the first time last weekend and spray the yard while it's raining.

Called to ask WTF, and was told their brand of chemicals thrive in water and encourage lawn watering after they spray. I've never heard of such a thing. They said they'd send a tech out to respray and he's never shown up. I'm getting ready to fire them.

ETA- looking at the services performed they didn't even spray for bugs.

I was a Tru-Green phone salesman for about two weeks when I was 18.

They had us cold calling old customers that quit using their service. We worked on commission.

For two straight weeks I was batting .000 and then I get a hit on this monster account, like 15 acres on this mansion of a property, it would have been a killer commission.

Instead of letting me close the deal and get the commission they hand it off to this lifer that had been a Tru-Green phone salesman since phones were invented (read: complete failure in life). I got fucking livid, that dried up cum stain of a manager took a possible $1k out of my pocket and I let him know just how I felt about it and walked out.

I hope both of those faggots choked on each others dicks that night. I still have a lot of resentment over that incident.

Fuck Tru-Green, they use shit watered down chemicals and fertilizers.

OP, buy a lawn spreader and a few bags of weed n' feed and I will gladly come over and apply it myself just to fuck Tru-Green out of your business.

will do thanks for the advice.  Guess I'll take the high road and figure this shit out for myself.  Worked most other times.

Thanks!

Are you close Allen County?  I use TruGreen because I'm a lazy fuck but if you do it by all means come on over!

Growing weed in my closet via hydroponics seems easier than the figuring out an acre worth of pedigree weeds.  Just saying.

I guess I'm an anomaly. I e used them for 2 years in Tupelo and never had a problem. I have my guys number and if something is t doing right he's there the next day spraying or respraying. He calls a day or so before he comes out too. He called Friday and said he would be in my area Saturday and was going to spray. I called back and left him a voicemail that I was doing yard work and could be wait till Monday. He came by Monday and left me a not bed be back Wednesday since I had a debris pile in my from yard. Sprayed me Wednesday as promised. I have the best Bermuda lawn on the street.

With any fertilzation (and I'm not saying use Trugreen) you have to give it time. And stay with the same company.

I work at a landscape company and people get pissed when shit doesn't happen overnight and jump ship. It takes time.

Plus trugreen will pump your lawn full of nitrogen and whoever cuts that shit will hate you.

Tried them once, hated them.  Would never do it again.

I think we once had a member draw on a chemlawn/trugreen guy once.

Unfortunately I am in the Columbus area, otherwise you would be getting a killer deal on lawn treatment.

Screw them...I had them and they ruined my St. Augustine.  Nursed it back with "Scott's Bonus S" (weed and feed) several times a year, with plenty of water, and occasional insect control.....lawn looks better than ever.

Worked in lawn care for quite a few years. Do yourself a favor........contact a local company that has been spraying lawns for 10+ years. They are out there waiting to service you and even give you a better rate. Same chemicals.

[#23]
All my neighbors have dumped that company in favor of some local guy... We'll see if there is an improvement this year. Lot of them had TruGreen and their lawns looked no better or worse than my lawn, all I do is throw out some weed killer, some fertilizer, and bug blaster at the beginning of the season, then winterizer before winter.

Shit's a rip off IMHO... Just as bad as pest control companies, I do that shit myself too. Costs me about $50 for the bottle, which lasts me a couple of years.

The trick is to find a company that knows what they are doing... I just had a trugreen rep at my house on Tuesday, had him tell me what they would do and realized he was a walking cluster... Im gonna go with another "local " place.. Most of these places can treat your lawn with better quality stuff for cheaper than what it cost for you to go buy the stuff to do it yourself for..

I had TruGreen for 6 months, they never came when they were supposed to and they only did the backyard once in that time frame although I was paying for it to be done. I never noticed a difference in the yard. I will never use them again, they are selling snake oil IMO.

Tru Green is a rip.

I use Scotts Turf Builder (Yellow bag).....keeps all the broadleaf and dandelions out....grass gets so thick its like plush carpet.
