I've got a bunch of these two trees in the back of my property and I'm about to cut some down for a deer stand/tree house. I'm not much of an arborist, but I'd like to know what they are. I'm in Central Texas near the Brazos River of that helps any.

Thanks

The second one looks like an ash.  A good hardwood.

It's an Aspen. You can tell it's an Aspen because of the way it is.

I guess I should have clarified that those are pieces of the trees in question.... I didn't have my phone and was too lazy to walk back to the house.

I was thinking that the one was either elm or ash, but it is really hard to tell the difference.

You can tell which trees are ash around here, they have no leaves. Damn ash borer.

If 50 trees grow back from the stump, it's elm.

Agree with the Elm - Chinese Elm to be exact.
