Im moving to AZ in the next two weeks. ILl be driving from Alaska. Ill be taking both my AR and PS90 with me. Is there any special pre caution or special things i should know about traveling with with weapons? Ill be headding through canada and stuff too. Another thing is... I know california has a Hicap mag law deal. How should i go by thraveling though there? Anything that i should know/tips please post it. Thanks for all the help in advance. |
This is one of the few instances that you have to declare it to the shipper, but that's about the only thing different than shipping anything else. If it's just long guns you could even use the post office. |

Have none of you heard about the Peaceable Journey Law? If you're legal at your origination, and at your destination, you're legal where you drive through. Transporting through California isn't a no-no if you're moving from AK to AZ. TITLE 18 PART I CHAPTER 44 Sec. 926A. Sec. 926A. - Interstate transportation of firearms Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console |
Yeah, Canada is the big no-no....but you can drive through ANY state if your destination is legal, and where you came from is legal. That's federally protected. Doesn't mean some podunk idiot won't give you a hard time, but the law is on your side. |
I've heard a few places (New Jersey for one) know the law, and will have you arrested anyway, just to give you a hard time. |
Possible, but it's not legal. The law is pretty damned clear on the issue. |

So as i read. As long as the state law im traveling from is the same as my destination I will be ok in the restriction land. I read that AZ gun laws are almost the same as AK gun laws right? What about the ammo? Would i beable to bring that along too as long as its not in a "Easy to reach " place right? If the rifle is in a case behind my seat is that concidered conceald? |

No. You are not transferring them to anyone. You do not need a FFL to ship your weapons to yourself in another state. If you go FedEx or UPS you must declare it as a firearm in this case though (required by law if not shipping to a FFL). |
