As you know there's an upcoming snow storm blowing by, so I take out the Toro Snowblower to get it running.  I usually run it once a month for a function test.  Well with the holidays and such, I missed a month.  Damn thing wont start.

It's a gas snowblower by toro.  I think two cycle engine.  I keep fuel stablizer in it with an 1:50 oil mixture.  Almost no fail, my wife has to take it in to get it cleaned or so.  This year, I think I'm gonna open it up and clean the carbon buildup which is usually the cause of it not starting.

WTF, my lawn mower doesn't have this problem and it's a similar gas mower.

Any suggestions would help.

Take the carb off and clean it really good.  You probably have some crud in the jet.  Use new gas and oil and take a look at the spark plug since it is now probably fouled.

I have picked up more snow throwers out of the trash, cleaned the carb and re-sold them than I can even remember.

Shortcut version.  Remove the sparkplug and dump a capful of gas directly into the spark plug hole.  Reinstall the spark plug and start it.  I have to do this to my Mac chainsaw every spring.

Being a 2 cycle, you have to run it full bore, balls to the wall or it will load up and run like shit, fouling the plug. Dont think it will wear it out, they are designed for it.

Also, Look for a product called "No-Smoke 2 Stroke". It is a universal mix that will work in everything from 1:32 to 1:150 ratios with ONE mix. You put 1 bottle to 1 gallon of gas and you are good to go for EVERY 2 stroke you own. We use and sell it in our shop and my dad's and his customers swear by it. It makes less smoke than regular 2 stroke, lubricates better and the fuel will last longer before spoiling. Best thing is, it is no more expensive than the regualr ratio specific stuff.

The stuff outsells the other Name brand mixes he carries 100 to 1.

I have had the same troubles in the past, didnt matter if I drained the gas every season or kept it full and started it once a month. First time of the season I needed it it NEVER started. I got sick of it and traded it for one with Elect start. This year I just filled it up and pluged in the starter cord and cranked it till it started. It took about 5 min of off and on cranking. The bad part is this one leaks gas and smells up the garage when the think leaks out the rest of the fuel. Im done with the worthless Toro's. If I break this one or get a hair up my ass Ill buy some other brand, unfortunatly I hear the Hondas do well.

The primer shoots gas past the carburetor but it doesn't  free up the reed valves.

its possible you also have a drain bolt on the bottom of your carb bowl. drain the main tank then remove that bolt and spray some carb clean in at the end of the season and you should be in good shape for next year.
