What is the deal with abnormally high tides in the NC area? It started during the last hurricane so I figured that was why, but they are still very high and the storm is long gone.

Down here in SE Hampton Rhodes a lot of the brackish water and bays are affected by wind driving the water into the area. Strong SE winds will drive it up substantially over the regular average. N NE winds and it will be much lower. Same here. Water piles up on east wind, and blows out on a strong NW blow, leaving me stranded in my duck blind.

Hurricanes move and create new channels. It probably deepened one that allows more water to move in with the tides. ETA: Noticed the NC tag, You probally just have a NE wind. That will stack up water. |
