A craptastic Dana 35 with a Detroit locker is a bad mix. Daily driver is down for a while, but the wife insist that I have to upgrade now. Rebuilding a D35 is just polishing a turd.

Ordering this tomorrow..... $OUCH$

Dana 35 might be a turd, but it's golden compared to the AMC Model 20.  I just finished rebuilding my first and last Model 20.  Never again...

I had Dana 44's in my jeep. Damn things worked great. Never an issue even under a full sized Cherokee on 33's

Upgrading to a G2 D44 with a Detroit locker, 4.10 gears. Still trying to decide between a 30 or 33 spline. I need to decide by tomorrow.

I pushed my luck with 33's on that D35. I knew it was eventually going to give out since the rear end had issues since the day I bought it. I'll eventually kick the tire size up to 35's

Thanks, just bad timing. I'm just coming out of my slow season with my business. This is going to wipe out my little emergency funds stash.

Dana 44s are great. Especially when you have them professionally built, but you don't know they shipped to you with no gear oil because you're and idiot. Then they spin pinion bearing and lock up at 50mph and send you sliding backwards across a county road into a corn field. Good times.

Do an 8.8 instead. Way cheaper, stronger and still a decent after market.

44 is plenty good for me since I don't do extreme offroading. It's my DD so I can't have it down for the length of time to build an 8.8.

If you're going to upgrade, why bother with a Dana 44 when the Dana 60 exists?

If i had the money to drop 3+ grand on a turnkey axle I would look at dynatrac before I would go with some junk brand from 4 wheel parts

you can get a dana 60 for 4k with an arb already installed.

I'm not to familiar with D44 how strong can you build them? And what side Is the pumpkin on?

Two reasons. Cost , out of my current price range at the moment, and a D60 is overkill for what I need. No rocks to crawl in SE Louisiana.

Strong. Pumpkin is in the center on the rear end, not offset like the 8.8.

I will never put a mechanical locker in the rear end of a jeep again. They work well in the front but the crab walking it causes in the snow/ice is excessive. Almost impossible to go straight in an off camber situation.

When I blew the Ford 10.5 rear in my excursion for the 4th time I was going to order a dynatrac dana 80 but the 14 week lead time got in the way, then I found a builder that built the dana 80 with arb, 4.30 gears and strange axles for 2200 and I had it in 10 days
