In a few minutes I will start turning on the new tracking feature for the site. You can get the full information on the system at the following link: Thread Tracker Help This thread will serve as a notice and discussion area about the new system. This system is only for Team Members. In short, all threads you read will now save your last read location. There are limitations to this as well as enhancements. The help page link above should cover the basics and you can pose new questions here if needed. I'm sure a few random discussions will pop up when people start seeing the new icon in front of threads they read. Initially I'll bring the basic thread tracking into play and then switch the new tools. (Active, Newest, Subscriptions, Search.) Since we're not sure what the performance impact will be, things may become available and then reverted back. The plan for now is to leave Search for a week or two, as the integration with that is much more complex. Hope you all enjoy it. |

Ok the tracking system is now live! These tools are also now updated and live:
Each of those tools will utilize the new tracking and bookmark features. SEARCH will be updated at a later date as the work involved is much more complicated with the new search engine. |

Very cool!
And, just to be sure I understood the FAQ thread on it, all these features are different from the current Gold Member (or higher) benefit of returning to your last post in the thread? Sounds like it really opened up the options! There have been a few times where I've posted in a thread just so I would know where to return to the next day - sounds like this has that problem solved! Oh! I just had another question pop into my head: Does "Thread Tracking" (not "Bookmarking") work across multiple computers, or is it cookie-driven, meaning the website will only know my last place in a thread if I access the thread from the same computer where I viewed it last? _MaH |

It also does not remove or replace any existing functions, it's additional to what you already had. |

4) How do I jump into a thread at my last read location? Jumping into a thread where you left off is easy. Just click on the green arrow box icon in front of the topic subject! It will take you to the beginning of the last reply you had read when you left the thread. that' really cool

Goatboy - got another question for you.
The thread tracking feature - loving it. Wanted to get a clarification on something, though. The thread tracking feature doesn't mark the last approximate post I was viewing in a thread, it marks the most recent post I viewed in a thread. For example - if there are 10 posts in a thread, and I scroll through all of them, but then scroll back up and close the page while viewing post #5, the thread tracking feature will take me back to post #10. Not a complaint - just an observation, and wondering if that's the designed behavior (and why the Bookmarking feature could be used to return to post #5). _MaH |

It's impossible to really track the "last reply" you left your mouse over, without adding a constant refresh of the page to get your cursor location, then find where your mouse is over (if it's even over a post at that time), and then store it each interval. The least cumbersome way is to simply lock you to the last reply on a page when you loaded it and assume you'll read to the end. The BOOKMARK feature allows you to mark any reply and give you ANOTHER entry point exactly where you want, regardless of your reason. (So if something pulls you away from the site, click bookmark on the reply and close your browser.) |

Found a bug with the tool pages which was keeping the folders from being displayed properly. (yellow for new posts, grey for no new posts) I will have that fixed in a minute. Keep in mind that threads you read will now only show up with YELLOW folders when there is a new post. It's now real time and no longer tied to your "last visited" date for the forum. |

Quoted: Thanks Goat. Good call on putting it on the left side of the page. It's the most logical spot to be able to see which threads you are involved in, and if they have new posts. Everyone is already used to clicking on the subject or page, so why the hell not! Glad you guys are enjoying it. Hopefully with this, the new search engine, and more upcoming tools, the hard work from the past year or so will continue to pay off. There's definitely a TON of stuff left to do, most of it small, but some of it as meaningful as these latest ones. |

It was like watching a tennis match when I'm in the zone over here. |
