Usually had my helicopter on the counter. Funny story, one day I had gone to the wanenmacher show before work and had bought a Russian SKS and left it in the back room. When work was over I grabbed it, with one stripper clip in my hand and one stuck to the sling, and went out the back door to get in my truck. When I swung the door open, there were two dudes in a running shitbox car backed right up to the door. We made eye contact, they saw me with this rifle, they got an OH SHIT look on their faces and they absolutely burned rubber out of there. I think they were planning on robbing us and me coming through the door with a rifle seriously changed their minds. |

Our old Hobby Town finally threw in the towel and got out of the area and moved across town away from all of the Section 8 housing. After the third smash and grab, enough was enough. They would do $10,000 of damage to the plate glass windows to grab $3000 of RC cars. That and the rent was just too damned high. |

I lived off of 61st and Riverside (about a mile from MEK's hobby shop) and one evening I was cutting down one of the back roads and I get pulled over by Tulsa PD. He immediately starts asking if I have been drinking or smoking something and why I was weaving. Why I am in the area and why I have friends with me. I was like dude, this is Tulsa, the roads look like they have been carpet bombed, of course I was weaving. Finally it sinks in, it looks like white boy in this area is either lost or buying drugs.  We got that sorted out and he suggested I find another shortcut next time.

I learned after the fact they had an online presence selling rocketry kits and engines, and they couldn't keep up with orders. The owner had some personal issues (family/ health) which got in the way of him processing orders and sponsoring events. His son sold card gaming stuff in the corner of the shop and wasn't interested in taking over the online sales. |

Yea, I kind of figured the numbers weren’t there. I sure wish we had a local place too, the last one died several years ago. It costs too much money just to exist anymore, making a living on small hobby stuff isn’t going to have enough cash flow to fund existence. It’s a shame. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

I stopped by an old hobby shop yesterday that has been in the area for well over 35+ years. They use to be a stones throw from the ocean at Myrtle Beach. They have now move further inland to Conway since it looks like the shopping center they were in either got demolished or rebuilt and rents raised. But it’s a really nice place, but it’s obvious it’s the RC cars and trucks that is their bread and butter. 75% of the retail space was dedicated to it. I was there for RC Airplane stuff. All I could find is what looked like 10-15 yo inventory brought from the old place. And it was in a corner of the store that occupied about 10’ of wall space on hangers. Almost 35 years ago I drove from Charleston to MB one Saturday morning to buy an engine they had in stock. They didn’t stock any airplane engines and what looked like one gallon of fuel for 2 stroke engines and a gallon for car engines. |

We found a hobby shop at 6564 NY-434, Apalachin, NY. Pro R/C Hobby and Raceway. They've been around for 20+ years, iirc. Nice place, they have an indoor clay oval and a crawler track. Good inventory, lots of things on sale, and they're flexible with pricing. I bought about $120 worth of parts from there. Pretty impressed with the amount of stuff they have. Mostly new, but have some used things. They also had a big plastic tote full of 75mhz transmitters for $1 each.
