Hi, Guys.
My wife's Gateway laptop won't go online. Looks like it is eat up with malware etc. I use MAC so I don't ever have trouble. So I am not much help to her. 1. Should I plug the thing directly into the router and see if I can get online that way or would the same damn virus that is blocking any online access except clicking on "Get Virus Protection for your computer" or something like that. 2. I was gonna take it to geek squad but they want 199 bucks. DAMN, I'll just get another laptop for a few hundred more. 3. I see some computer repair stuff in Plano, Tx but seems like they want to do it over the phone or online. How does that work? Thanks for any help. |

This Is GD - expect no useful answers.
MAKE A BACKUP! (even a nasty backup is better than no backup!) Go to bleepingcomputer.com, set up a new account (Free), start a new thread, and let them walk you through it. Essentially, you want to kill the bad infection, root out it's leftover launcher programs, and hopefully retain your system. Good luck! |

Thanks for info. Went to bleepingcomputer.com and they had detailed info on how to remove the Crazy Bogus Security Suite virus from my wife's laptop. I am computer illiterate but managed to get it back online, download rkill.com and run malwarebytes. The only snag was then I tried to download Verizon Internet Security Suite. Would NOT load. Tech support etc. fail. Finally, GD guys Goosey and Guardian clued me in to free Anti-virus and my wife's laptop is GTG. I also dumped verizon's AV stuff from my MAC and installed free AV software on it. THANKS ARFCOM GD. |
