As usual, I just had a random thought while on lunch. Tasers work by depending on the ability of the human body to conduct electricity - the prongs hit you, current goes through, shorts your nervous system. So, what if there was a set of clothing that was internally lined with a conductive material? Since your body would no longer be the path of least resistance, would the charge not go through the clothing instead of you, thereby greatly reducing the effect?

Canvas or leather jacket.
It's not rubber buckshot proof or pepper spray proof though. It also depends on the cartridge used and the range it's fired at. I saw shot after shot simply bounce off of stiff cardboard silhouettes at 7 meters. Short answer, it depends. |

Quoted: You will also have to keep the probes from pentrating. I shot a Level IIA vest last week and the probes penetrated. I've never seen a fired taser up close - aren't the trailing wires just bare metal? If they are, the conductive material would limit the disruption, as the current takes the path of least resistance. |

They already exist. Just do some web searches. They are being marketed towards LE since anyone can buy a taser now. I guess to many LEO have been doing the herky jerky. So yes it is not only possible to make, but is in fact already a reality.
EDIT: as and after thought: I think it is fine to give LE tasers, just make sure to take away their firearms. That way there will be no accidental shootings (yes it happens, not often, but it does), but they can still stop the tango(s). |

Because everyone that plans on using some type of force is within 21'. Tasers are NOT for use in deadly force situations because Tasers aren't a deadly force weapon. |

Quoted: Quoted: they can have trouble going through heavy winter clothing... fail sometimes. I think 2 layers of relatively this leather would do the trick everytime. No, the current can pass 1 inch past the end of the prob. On the M26 or older ones probably. The new X26 has a 2" jump. |
