What does it take to set this stuff off?  The reason I am asking is for an upcoming event.  I will be using a .308 Winchester firing long range ammo.  168 grain MK's over a stiff does of powder for 2800 FPS from the 26" barrel.  Bullets are 0.001" off the lands which is fine in my rifle as its a long action.

Once I get the range calculations down pat, can I expect to get a reliable KB on the Tannerite all the way to 800 yards?

From the tannerite website:

The minimum impulse energy required to initiate detonation of these binary targets is approximately (4.5. - 5.0 ft/lbs per u/sec). A .357 magnum produces impulse energy of approximately (1.3 ft/lbs per u/sec).

If you can figure out the impulse energy based on mass and velocity you can see what distance it will be effective at.

.308 should be plenty.  I've set it off many times with a standard 55gr .223 out of a 16" carbine but then, I've never shot at Tannerite targets at ranges over 200 yrds.

The new stuff is supposed to be able to be set off by a 17 hmr. I don't know how well it will work out at 800 yards though. Make sure you tell us if it works.

.308 will work, but only if you're 10' away or closer.

I would probably miss at that range due to scope parallex.  The Matchkings are cooking, especially compared to "green tips out of an M4gery".  My rifle has a full 26" HEAVY barrel.
