I have a 2004 Tacoma and I haven't driven it in a couple of weeks. I went out to move it and it would turn over but not start. It finally started but it idles rough and smokes. It's still under an extended warranty but I'd rather fix it myself if possible. Does anyone have any idea's? Erick |
| It sounds like it might be idling rough and smoking from being loaded up from so much cranking. It isn't uncommon sometimes for a vehicle to start hard after sitting especially if the tune-up parts and gas are old. Did you try drive it around and see if it cleared up? |
| What brand of oil filter are you using. If you are using a cheap one without the anti drain back valve, all of the oil can drain down out of the upper end of the engine and cause a lifter to lose prime if the engine sits for a few days. Upon startup, the engine will run rough a smoke for a few seconds until the lifters pump up. My '98 was doing this until I changed back to OEM filters. |
