Apparently the HDMI ports have gone out on the main board of my 2 year old Vizio tv.  I've done enough trouble shooting to know that is the problem.  Component and AV style work and picture is great.  Common problem from looking in the net.  Something to do with the "handshake" between devices.
New main board can be had for about $100.  Looks pretty easy to install.
Anybody ever been through this?
If so is it as easy as it looks on the YouTube videos to change out?
I hate to get rid of a good tv if I can fix it for $100 but I hate wasting the money if it turns out to be something I can't fix.
Thanks...LL

If you are sure that's the problem, then go for it.

Here's the trick - why did the original board die?  Is the bad board a cause or an effect, a symptom?

If it died from an over-voltage condition caused by a bad power supply, the new board will also die (instantly).

Whether or not I do the board or get a new tv I am replacing the surge protector and sat receiver.
Now the sat receiver showing picture (except HD channels) but no sound when on hdmi.  HD channels make something pop up that says "your tv does not support this program's content", which from looking on the net means the hdmi is no communicating correctly.
I was able to get the Xbox to play sound by going into the Xbox settings and turning off "device discovery".
BlueRay gets absolutely nothing through hdmi but works through component.

I think it is definitely the board.  Seems to be a problem with this tv, the new board has a revised part number so maybe they fixed the problem.  But sometimes I break shit worse trying to fix it. . Big hands
Anybody ever change out boards and is it as easy as it looks?

Don't overlook the obvious.

Test with a new known good HDMI cable first.

Other than that, try Youtube for videos, people record everything now days so maybe there's something there you can use to learn from before starting.

+1 everything in this post!

Disassembling things not really meant to take apart and put together outside of the factory can be tricky sometimes, learn from others mistakes.

I had this go down a couple of years ago when my house got hit by lightning. Never ended up buying a mainboard. I did pickup a hdmi to component adapter since the TV takes 1080p from component. I figured at the other side of the room in my bedroom I wouldnt see the difference in the resolution...

Done.  Multiple hdmi cables used on multiple components.  Always the exact same result.  I am pretty mechanical and the board change out looks easy.
My tv does not appear to be completing the hdmi " handshake" with the other components.  Vizio did not seem surprised that the board went out.  Basically said it happens.
