So has anybody else had any issues with bolt rollers breaking on Springfield M1As? Was shooting mine over the summer and the bolt roller broke. Had the rifle for 11 months. Hadn't even put 100rounds through it. Sent it in got it repaired. Went out shooting today, put 6 rounds through it and the same thing again. The bolt roller is actually breaking apart. So two bolt rollers over 1.5 years with maybe 100 rounds combined. I DO NOT drop the bolt on an empty chamber. I will either ease it in gently or use a snap cap to work the bolt when cleaning. Anyways, back to local gunstore on Monday to get it taken care of again. Just wanted to see if anybody else had any issues. Put it here instead of M14 forum just to get a better response.

I remember a case or two of that happening to someone's M1A through the years. If you search through the archives on the M14 Firing Line Forum you'll find the threads eventually.
It's probably either the bolt or the op rod. I could be the fit between the two is off or the bolt is out of spec. You don't need to take it to the shop you've bought it from though unless PA has a shitty law where it most be shipped to and from a FFL. You can just call SAI for a return # and just ship it direct through a printed out prepayed label from them. Sorry about your troubles. People do have them from time to time and it happens with all firearm manufacturers. |

Yep, among other items. I had to send mine back to the factory three times for other items as well, and they ended up replacing the entire receiver which was out of spec. No real troubles since then, but I don't trust the rifle anymore. Got an AR-10 and never looked back.

I always hear more bad than good about SA M1As.... just get a LRB with an indestructible forged receiver with USGI parts. Sucker will outlive your grandkids Nothing is indestructible and all my M1As are all USGI parts save for the receiver. Of course mine are all older ones with the newest being dated to the late 80s. |
