Getting back to swinging the sticks after two knee replacements and I need some new golf shoes. Any of you old guys that wore spikes in the day found a spikeless shoe you like?

A lot depends on how you want the shoes to feel and how you want to play.  I assume with your knees you're planning to use golf carts?

Do you want a stiff or flexible sole?
Do you want waterproof? Leather?
What's your shoe budget?

You can check mygolfspy.com for shoe reviews.  Generally speaking, the spiked shoes that get the best reviews for grip usually have at least 7 spikes.

I haven't found anything yet that makes me feel as anchored to the tee box as metal spikes did.  I recently bought a pair of Puma shoes that have those weird amoeba-like spikes; they seem to hold well.

I have both, but wear spikes 90% of the time.  If it's wet, or really dry, I will slip my back foot going after a tee shot.  I prefer to wear spikeless when I walk which is almost never during the summer.  They are very comfortable, but are a goldilocks shoe for conditions.  If I slip, it's pretty much going to be a covered pull shot.

Ecco Biom Hybrid is a great spikeless shoe, but it's got nowhere near the hold of, say FJ Hyperflex or Tour Alpha.  If you need to hang onto the ground and don't let go, I can't recommend spikeless.  If you're swinging easy, within yourself, and it's not wet/muddy/slippery, it's fine.

True Linkswear makes a decent one, but not for wide-foot people.

Have a few different versions of Puma and Adidas in spikeless and spiked.

If I only had 1 pair they would be spiked.  They make them so comfortable these days but if it’s wet the spikes keep you planted.

Honestly I don’t know why everyone went away from metal spikes.

The aggressiveness of today’s plastic spikes do more damage to greens than I remember the metals doing when someone drags their feet.

metal spikes did a lot more damage to greens than plastic.  Especially late in the day during a tournament.

I can get a whole year out of these.  I don't like wearing more than one pair of golf shoes from day to day.  Why introduce another variable?

I wear Ecco sandals.  No spikes needed.

I've been basically wearing $15 Costco slip on skecters.

Should I look into actual golf shoes?
What do they actually provide over a comfortable regular shoe?

Traction mainly.

I have to wear spiked or I slip on drives sometimes.

I ruined a dream round because of this.  Played 18 in wet conditions and soaked my regular shoes.

Changed into spikeless for the second 18.  Everything was going fine since it had dried up a bit till we caught the mower on the 17th tee box.

He finished the tee box, and I stepped up and teed off.  I never knew fresh clippings on damp grass could be so slick.

Lost my rear foot and sent the ball deep into the shit.

Spiked for me...

(I may have replied to this already, apologies if so.)  Ecco's Hybrid Bioms are awesome.  I've worn them to a professional job, they blend so well.

But if you're stouter, and more in tune with a "powerful" swing, go spiked.  I'm 6', now down to 235, and I wreck a grass range under my feet versus where my ball was sitting.  FJ Tour Alpha isn't bad, I want to try the new Hyperflex Carbon, and the Squiarz people have a point.  So go spiked, is all I'm saying.
