| I'm in need of a sound bar. I had a 5 year old htib 5.1 pioneer that had issues randomly turning off and not wanting to play audio until I had did the magic amount of turning on and off. I just purchased a vizio m55 that has SmartCast. The tv is seriously lacking bass and mids and sounds tinney. Local Best Buy has a JBL sb400 open box for 150. I'm also considering a vizio SmartCast series for more just so I don't have to have more remotes on the table. If I had decided to upgrade the receiver I would have to also buy a new subwoofer as the one I have won't work. That would also put me out of my budget. What I want is to use the tv's tablet remote for volume and to turn it on/off, Wife friendly. Sound that is closer to what I had when it worked. That I'm able to hear dialogue on a lower volume. A 2.1 system for some bass. how much of a downgrade in audio quality are sound bars am I looking at and what would be my best choice for under a max of $300. |

A little over your budget but I have this in a really large room, 24ft ceiling at the peak, and it sounds good enough for me to hear the dialogue I couldn't hear with just TV. Bluetooth so no need for the extra remote, programmed to operate with Sat TV remote. Base from the sub is wireless and better than TV. I didn't think I'd be able to tell it's there but it does make a difference.
I'm not allowed to turn up the volume because wife unit has bad migraines at the drop of a hat but overall I'm happy. Down side is it's over budget. I'm not an audiophile so all the other nuances of sound are lost on me. YMMV |

Bought Klipsch soundbar (floor model) from Best Buy a couple of years ago. Rated for like 300W. Klipsch speakers are very efficient. I have never been able to turn it up much. Came with an 8" woofer, remote and overall sound is very nice. I saw a Klipsch on Amazon Daily Deals a couple weeks ago for around $300. The specs looked great. I wanted to return the Sony I had just bought a week or two before and get this, but I had already thrown the box, manuals, etc. away. Lesson learned. The Sony I bought form Best Buy is 330W and sounds great, but I have no illusions that it sounds better than a Klipsch. |
