...because they don't want this problem solved by a Republican president, even with the blessing of a bipartisan commission co-chaired by Democrat icon Daniel Patrick Moynihan. View Quote |

[red]"Since Social Security's inception, its benefits have been generated by the payroll tax. These monies were not invested in a trust fund and earmarked for the benefit of the individual taxpayers funding it. Rather, they were transferred to retirees and disability recipients (and diverted into the general revenue fund) without ever residing in a trust account.
This system worked smoothly for years because there were many more workers than benefit recipients to support it. But now, people are living longer, and birth rates have declined drastically. In 1940, the ratio of workers to retirees was 42 to 1; in 1960 it was 5 to 1; presently it is 3 to 1, and soon it will be 2 to 1."[/red]

My opinion is more important than your opinion. But that's just my opinion.
I had to throw all my guns overboard to keep from getting arrested when I sailed into Mexico. |

If any individual tried to do on their own what social security does, they'd be arrested for running an illegal pyramid scheme.
But thankfully, good intentions by the government make up for any fatal flaw!
In the mean time, I'd like to encourage all senior citizens to take up smoking. Also, I hear crack cocaine is good for arthritis. And heroin cures gout.

I'd like to thank all you hard working young Americans for mking my (semi) retirment much more comfortable. Having reached the advanced age of 62 in April and having had the foresight to father a child at the age of 58, I collect about 150% of the basic SS benefit, and that, along with continuing to work 2 days a week, gives me a $3000/yr raise in pay.
Keep on plugging guys. Us old farts need the bucks {:D]

The USA is going to be in big trouble as soon as 2012, but definitely by 2020. The cost of the Social Security and Medicare programs are growing exponentially. We already spend about $1 trillion a year on Social Security and Medicare.
