How much do you think this is worth? Guy said make an offer. It's full of tools but no clue what kind or brand.

What kind and brand of tools. If it is all snap on and depending how full I would say from $2-3k on up.

Personally Snap On is really not my thing, it's a great tool no doubt but the cost/benefit isn't there for me.

If it comes with all the contents but you aren't sure what the contents are, it could be worth anywhere from $2000 to $20,000. Until you get a better idea of what's in the box you wont get any real good answers.

Dont turn this into a safe thread...

I don't own a single Snap On tool, but I do know the value of them. If I can snag this for a good deal, I won't hesitate. I just need to know what a good deal is.

Wish I had the key. It's been sitting in our hanger for about 8 months now collecting dust. The owner had a plane but he had to move it. The tool chest stayed behind and has been untouched since.

So pay the price of what the box is worth since the owner wont open it and has no idea of the value of whats in it.

Looks like a fairly new KRA2422 - snapon.com list price is $5325, however unlikely that that was the selling price - and it may still belong to snapon credit - just saying.

Is this serious or not? The newest model on Snap On's website for this chest is 6k. This one is older, but in pristine condition. Do they really loose that much value.

Looks like the KRL maybe a 1022

They go for about 2,500-3,000+ used and empty.

Gotchya. I was gonna offer $2k for the lot. But Upon research on craigslist, $2k may be a tad high for a "good deal"

This.  Ask who his dealer was.  Seller must be hurting for cash.

I think I paid $2500 for a royal blue KRL 14 years ago it was a repo without tools in it.

ETA: it also came with a stainless steel top

It was never WORTH $6K to begin with.

Have some KoolAid...

ETA:

FWIW, my neighbor bought a much longer tool box in blue from a pawn shop for $4000 less than a year ago.  He's a diesel mechanic and owns a trucking company.  I understand what Snap On charges...but can't honestly say it's really worth that much (but value is in the eye of the beholder)

Snapon website

There will be a serial number on the back - you can call snapon they will verify what it is

I've seen them as cheap as 1200 all the way to 2500 for one like that. The color may hurt the price. One thing is list price on a box going thru payments and one thing is selling it for cash. I've seen the same snap on boxes on craigslist for a few years cause noone has 3k and up to drop cash on something like that.

Do you know what kind of plane?  How much is the hangar rent?

My point is the owner has (had?) an expensive hobby.  I doubt he bought a new Snap On chest and filled it with crap tools.

I would offer $1,000.
2/8/2017 11:41:31 AM EDT
[#30]
Tell him you need to see it first. Show up with $1500. Or what ever it's worth to you. Don't get hooked on the name. Unless you're turning wrenches for a living or need a box i'd pass on if he wants more that $1500.

$2k is a decent deal for the box, the contents are all the wild card on this one. If the box hasn't been touched in a few months, you might just get lucky.

I like where your heads at, except we told him he could store it here until he finds a place for it or until it absolutely has to go because we need the space. We need the space.

If the guy could take that pic ... why the hell couldn't he snap a quick pic of the contents of each drawer ?

As that is what determines the value in this transaction

Offer him $1000 until he reveals what tools are part of the deal. That will snap him back into reality

This would not be a bad deal - here is a gamble when you buy a box from snapon you normally get tool vouchers for 10 to 15% of what you paid for the box - so assume he paid at least 5k for the box - then he would have got a tool voucher for $500 so there is potential of at least 1 snapon screwdriver inside ..... this is getting to be a safe thread

I got one similar to it for 2k the "master series" model with a butcher block top and a six inch SnapOn ( made by Wilton) vise bolted to it. No other tools included It was all in real good shape too. So I'd try and stay under 2k for it. Only buy those damn things used like that what they list for new is bonkers! The tools I would not make any offer on without seeing exactly whats included.

The box alone is probably worth $1,500- $ 3,500. The contents could be worth $200 to 20k.

It is almost like asking what a safe with guns in it is worth without bing able to open it. It could be stocked with high end stuff or could be full of junk.

Sounds like the guy doesn't want it and doesn't what the hassle of moving it and then trying to sell to someone else.

I'd offer as low as my conscience would allow.  He'll probably take it.  That being said, I have no idea on a price.

Someone who buys that box usually won't fill it with craftsman tools. It's probably loaded with top tier tools. Box that size and tools could push 15-20k easily
