Has anybody responded to a crash that involved a smart car?  While drinking coffee at our sub station, we got on the subject and was wondering if there's anything left

yep. had one on a roll over. was traveling on a straight away and drifted to the right striking a boulder. Car flipped and landed on roof, surprisingly it held up pretty well.

Never worked a crash with one involved but I think they received the highest crash ratings allowed.

From what I remember the car is basically a roll cage with two doors.

I've only seen one or two of them on the roads in So Texas.  Everyone down here has big trucks.  I don't think they'd hold up to well being struck by a F250

The cab is very tough, the only downside is the crumple zones are tiny, so the passengers are still getting more Gs than someone in a bigger car.

I have heard this pic is not of a smart car but of a Ford escape. But I can see that they may have similar results.

I didn't see it personally, but our department ran one. The driver's seat had been ejected from the vehicle. The driver was still buckled in. I think he hit a f350 or something similar.

I've wanted to see one T-boned by a Triaxle. I figure it will either run it over or bounce it down the road like a beach ball.

So would an F350 between 2 80,000 lb trucks

The top was missing, a smart car was t-boned by a large pickup which was lifted and had a huge bumper.

Not to mention those "way less than" 80,000 lb trucks

In all fairness, no modern passenger car is going to fare particularly well in that scenario.

I'm in Maine...  have you ever seen a Moose?  That would scare you out of a Smart Car real quick.  Those b#stards are everywhere!

Though it would be fun to get a bumper sticker that says "Don't F#ck with me, I weigh more than my car."
