About two years ago an aquaintance was in the forclosure house cleanup business.  He found a Lincoln WeldanPower 125 welder and generator in the weeds.  The Subaru Robin27 9.0hp engine ran great, but the wiring for the welder is toast/eaten.

It hasn't ran since I bought it for $50 from him.  Training at work and other projects took presidence.

I figured since winter is basically here I would see if I could get the thing working and rewired since the engine ran.

I put about 2 cups of gasoline (uses straight gas) in and it leaks out from the carb.  It didn't do this before.

The pull cord will not pull now.  Moves about an inch and a half and then nothing.  The welder is 200# and I can almost pick the thing up by the pull cord.

I removed the plug and found that the ground was mashed into the center conductor.  I did spray a little WD40 into the cyclinder.  The piston had a little carbon removed from the sparkplug, but apeared otherwise undamaged.

I don't mind spending some cash on gaskets and things.  My primary use will not be for the welder, it will be to power the heater if the power goes out.  If it is cheaper to replace it (~$400-~$700) then that will obviously be the better route.

Spray WD40 in the spark plug hole and then try to pull.  You may need to take off the pull start mechanism to be able to spin the motor shaft forward and back to free up the piston rings.

Cool.  I was wondering if I could just unbolt the pull start.  Is it a self contained unit (the pull start), or will springs go everywhere?

Thanks

Thanks for the help.  Removing the pull starter and cranking it worked to free it.  The plug was the wrong size.  With the correct size it runs like a champ!!!  I am guessing that the plug was loose before so that it would not impact the piston.
