I am in the mood to watch Skyfall, but I haven't seen Quantum Solace. Does one have to watch QS in order to understand what is going in Skyfall?

I think it's best to watch them in order. There are just a few things that carry over. Nothing major that negates watching them another way but I think it makes the movies tie together a bit more.

The groundwork for 'trust issues' between M and 007 and some of the 'girlfriend' things in Skyfall are set up in QS.  I think they are covered well enough in SF, but there may be about 5 minutes of SF that wont make a whole lot of sense w/o the set up.  Other than that; you will be OK.  



This being said; get them both, watch in order; 'rediscover' the best thing about the UK...  James Fucking Bond.

The three together reset the series I'd watch them in order if you have the opportunity. However skywalk stands more on its own than QoS.

I actually just tried watching QoS and I was lost as a mother fucker. But then again, I had a friend over and they wouldn't shut the fuck up and I lost alot of the dialogue that was going on.

Quantum wasn't that good, but it did do a bit more for character development.  Bond and M got a little more developed... but you could skip it.  It wasn't near as good as Casino.  And Skyfall was pretty good, IMHO.

Quantum of Solace is easily the worst Bond movie in 25 years.  It's awful.  

Fortunately, it's not necessary to have seen it in order to watch Skyfall.  

I thought Skyfall was a really good movie.

Bond is supposed to be a near-superhuman, nearly indesctructable, womanizing scoundrel awesome secret agent. In Skyfall he's old, weak, beaten up, and ultimately fails at his mission - the bad guy gets what he wants in the end anyway. Like I said, it's an OK Big Dumb Action movie, but it's a disgrace to the Bond franchise.

Skyfall was the first Bond movie I ever watched, I was told I'd like them since I love the Bourne movies.  Skyfall was a total let down in comparison to the Bourne series.
