This is a repost because the S&W forum gets no traffic apparently. My buddy might bring his Sigma over tonight so I can help him do this.
Anyone done it? Seems to good to be true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKit97YipiE |
| Do not mess with the spring in the firing pin. Do the trigger mod where you polish the internals on the sear, remove the pigtail spring (keep) and replace the wrap spring with one from a ink pen. Don't use a cheap pen but one that has a good thick spring. Once done if you do it right the gun is sweet. Keep all the old springs in case you have a warranty claim on the weapon. Or you can send it to SW for a cleanup but that just polishes the internals. The only reliable way to get the trigger weight and travel down is what I described. I was going to trash mine and now anytime I find one someone is griping about I buy it and do the mod. Once the mod is done the gun is accurate to all get out and a great gun to shoot. |

The best way to improve your Sigma is to sell it and buy a less shitty gun. the new ones fixed a lot of the old issues. The trigger is heavy probably due to lawyering. But it is essentially a Glock clone made by a very reputable manufacturer. Also it is not mine to sell. |

Thanks a bunch I wanted some reassurance before I start deleting parts. |

Seems to good to be true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKit97YipiE I don't know which forum you are talking about, but the smith-wessonforum.com is very active, and has a section devoted entirely to the Sigma line of S&W semiauto pistol: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-sigma-sd-pistols/ As you might imagine, a great deal of discussion has been made about the crappy trigger pull on the Sigma. Once the Sigma has been thoroughly worked over, they can be made to shoot very well. A LOT of people are on a very tight budget these days, and you can buy a very low round count used Sigma for as little as $200. With another $50 or less, they can be made to shoot accurately and reliably. Some people really like them. The smith-wessonforum.com is a very nice forum. It's much smaller than arf.com, but the S&W forum has much better ....manners. I've seen differences of opinions, but rarely do people get even close to nasty. Go there and ask your questions; people are outright friendly, there. ![]() You do have to register, like most forums, but it's very easy. Good luck with your Sigma. I shot one once, and it was pretty awful: the trigger pull was long, and VERY heavy The ergonomics are nice though; better than a Glock, IMHO. |

We test fired 15 rounds today and it was awesome. I would guess it went from 10+ lbs to around 6.5. Cant really feel a positive reset though. |
| OK. Sigma owner here. I have done the mods and they work wonders. Here is another thing to look for. Check to see how much slop is between the sliding sear block and the pins that hold it in place. If there is a lot then push the pins out and replace with pins that are slop free. (i use cut down guage pins, but im a machinist. Drill blank would work too.) this takes out the twisting of the sear block as you pull the trigger. Really smoothes it up. This will void your warenty so keep that in mind. I have a extra searblock assmbly i will put in if it has to go back for service. |

In '08 I got a Sigma .40VE for $99 as part of a promotion. The trigger job smoothed and lightened the trigger nicely but I put in a too weak striker spring and was getting light strikes. A replacement spring solved that issue and now I have an 8lb trigger that breaks crisply.
The pistol was always accurate and reliable but a gritty 16lb trigger was just too much to bear. P.S. I also have an M&P40 (from '06) and far prefer it but, thats $500 vs $99 for ya. |

New Sigmas are selling for $275 here, M&P's, when you can find one (esp in 9mm) are $550 or MORE. I have several Sigmas. They make a great stash gun, completely reliable. I even have one hidden in the barn. The trigger mod works just fine. You sure about that? |
