I'm sure I've seen people in the UK forum with them, and airsoft people with them in other countries. Must have got them somehow.

Yep I'm sure at least 50% of tactical crap is sold to airsofters. Just look at the cheaper than dirt catalog.

Like a licensed firearm exporter. Even though it's just a magnifier, there are some things banned for export by regular people that aren't guns, but gun equipment.

Airsoft is ridiculously priced. A top brand airsoft Mosin Nagant will cost you $700

i can't see anyone paying $700 for a mosin nagant, real or fake.

That's my guess as well.  The company I work for has ITAR restrictions.  Our stuff is defense related products but nothing lethal or less-than-lethal is manufactured.

ITAR Violation.  I believe you can get an exporter permission if you wanted to go that route...
