Did not see a Shave of the Day thread so starting one. Share your shaves! Here's a 2020 Rocnel Sailor, Feather blade, and an old standard: Cella, a great soap that smells like almonds. |
My own view is that left-wing positions largely come about from resentment, I agree with Nietzsche, a resentment about the surrounding social order. They have privileges, I don't. Or, I have them and I can't live up to them. Roger Scruton

No need to change as far as I'm concerned. What I'm doing works great for me. I don't use shampoo, either. Just good old Ivory soap, head to toe. To each their own, is what I aways say. If what you're doing works for you and what I'm doing works for me, we both win. What sort of pics are you looking for? I have a digital microscope; I might be able to get some before and after shots at about 60x.

It adds a bit of fun to the usually boring shave. Different razors, soaps, blades and methods keep it interesting and something to look forward to. Pics are just more flavor for the posts. Here is one from ~1870, Ernst Scharff, uses a hollow ground wedge type blade. Still working on honing skills but finally got a decent shave from it. The blade in the pic is an early 1900's Gem Z. Looked unusable when I got it, pitted, rusted, chipped. One blade can last forever with proper honing/stropping skills. I'm with you on the Ivory, also use it on occasion, works well.

I can appreciate the finer points of it all. It's just not something I personally ever geeked out on. One of the things that's always stuck with me from the US Navy is showering and shaving. I shaved in the shower, so all I ever needed was my Ivory soap and a disposable razor. I was a real minimalist when at sea. It made things so much easier. Disposables had just come about at that time too (mid-70's). The closest I can compare too was going to barber shops in Italy, especially Naples. Glass and wood palaces staffed by impeccably-groomed men wearing suits. It was like a day spa for guys. Hot towels, massages, soap brushes, straight-razors, the works. When we got off the ship, we'd stop by our favorite bar, buy a bottle of rum and have them stick it in the freezer, then we'd go get haircuts and shaves. After a few weeks living on a grimy, greasy ship, we'd walk out of there feeling like kings. Their gear was, of course, top-tier. Then we'd go back to the bar and drink our iced rum and try to talk to the girls as they headed home from work ... until the discos open. Disco music sucks but Italy was packed to the rafters with discos packed to the rafters with young girls from all over Europe. Good times. |

Sorry, no photos from my own bathroom available, maybe I'll be better prepared tomorrow, lol Inexpensive Viking Revolution handle. I really like the size and balance of this guy, fits my giant meat hooks well, and I had to buy it because it's gun metal blue!  Loaded with one of these.  Buffered by this  Love this soap, leaves my skin feeling 10 years younger. |
