Hello all! Champ was dumped in a Kansas park on Sunday. Thank God, Arfcom member JGrelle saw Champ almost as soon as he was dumped, and he texted me. Champ is now a Semper Fi dog!!! BUT IMMEDIATE NEED.... This good boy is heartworm positive, and we need your help. Semper Fi is taking Champ as one of ours. We need help to get his vet bills covered and that expensive heartworm treatment. Story is below, but here is the link to donate. We have several heartworm positive dogs at the moment, so every little bit helps, but to cover everything for Champ, we need $1600.00 To Earmark funds for Champ, go in "Words of Support" after you donate, and just say "for Champ." Any extra funds on top of Champ's need will go to help our other dogs with heartworm treatment. The STORY: Arfcom member @JGrelle was walking his two Semper Fi dogs (Gunny and Roxy) on Sunday when he saw a German Shepherd alone in the park. He put Gunny and Roxy up, and went back to check. Sure enough, the dog was there, alone, with no owner around. Other people in the park actually had SEEN a big white dump truck arrive, leave, and there was Champ left behind.  JGrelle called the police to help catch Champ, who was shy at first. JGrelle gave the police officer one of his own leashes to use for Champ, and Champ was taken to the local vet. The vet could only hold Champ until today, so JGrelle is bringing Champ home with him until we at SFDR find his forever home. HUGE THANKS TO JGrelle FOR BEING A PART OF THE SFDR TEAM AND LETTING US KNOW ABOUT THIS GOOD BOY, then helping!  This is the thread where you can donate to help him, OR put in your request to claim him.  Stuff to know about Champ: Champ weighs 66 lbs. Vet thinks he is around 4 years old, but that's best guess. Champ has been very sweet with everyone, very friendly but a bit shy at first with new people (understandable if you've been dumped by your family.  )Absolutely no aggression of any kind shown. He is in a kennel surrounded by other dogs, and does great. He walked by the Vet's office cat and didn't even blink an eye. He likes playing in the water. IMPORTANT: *With ANY DOG who has been dumped, it takes a while for his personality to come through fully. *We and the vet do everything we can to give a solid assessment of the dog so there are no surprises for the new forever home family. But it takes a while to see who a dog really is because he's scared and nervous. But the fact that he's scared and shows NO AGGRESSION, is such a good thing! *THIS DOG IS A GERMAN SHEDDER. They are called that for a reason. He will need regular brushing. A bath and a force dry at a good pet wash station (like Tractor Supply) every 6 to 8 weeks will go a long way toward reducing the cat-size hair clumps that roll around the house. (Ask me how I know. )JGrelle will update us on how he does once he is home. Now, let's help this good boy! Every little bit helps. Even $5. This is a hard time for a lot of people, and with the world upside down, this good boy may seem small by comparison. Bumps to this thread help more than you know. In a world gone crazy, help me keep this thread near the top? It is my suspicion that Champ was dumped because the owner could not afford the vet care for him. I always loved tagging along and helping him. That second photo of them on the furniture is just fantastic, I mess around in my spare time taking photos and that is a good one. We did use GiveSendGo for one fundraiser, but Jordan had a lot of trouble getting the money from them. We do have venmo and paypal if you'd rather use that. I haven't had a chance to talk with her about setting up another GiveSendGo and trying again. I think people are so familiar with GoFundMe that it's often easier to get donations that way, but I don't like them either. They only pay out once a month, so it's very slow. All the donations going to Champ won't be to Jordan until the 25th. I understand that's part of how GoFundMe makes money, but it seems not okay to me. |

Jordan is going to call GiveSendGo and speak with them about why it was so difficult last time. She had to keep emailing and sending proof that she was who she said she was, and it was an enormous time suck. Something was really off with their process. I would like to get that fixed too. |

Bump for Champ & update from vet. Champ is doing very good, had his 2nd round of treatment for heartworm today & should be coming home with me tomorrow. Vet said he is starting to to display his personality (in a good way) & not quite so timid. He is a really good dog & will be a very good companion. |
