I do not see a forum for scopes.. Please show me if I've missed it!

My question is, which scope would be better? I like the Bushnell because it's 6x (4.5-30x). However, someone else suggested that the Nikon will probably be better quality.

The two are:
Bushnell Elite® 6500 4.5-30x50mm

Nikon Monarch X Riflescope 2.5-10x44mm

------

Any comments on these? Should I consider a different scope altogether?

Thanks!

You need to tell how and what you plan to shoot. Also, tell about the gun on which you plan to use the scope.

I sold scopes for many years and looked through thousands. The Bushnell Elite series is impossible to beat without spending four times the money, and then the increase in brightness and clarity is marginal.

Probably a .308 with 1 MOA or SUB-MOA.

Nikon clarity is HARD to beat from anyone else in the same price range, IMO.

Okay. If you are going to be shooting at moving targets, the maximum magnification you should go for is about 14X and you probably want a tactical scope (variable to 14X, very sturdy, 30 mm tube) or maybe a hunting scope (9X mag). If you're going to shoot at varmints who peep-out of little hole and don't move much, or if you will be shooting at paper, then you can go higher in magnification (especially, if you'll be shooting benchrest).

Long range you'll need a 30mm or greater tube diameter.

I like both Bushnell and Nikon, so either brand is fine, in my mind. For my target 308 I have a Bushnell Elite 4200, for my tactical 308 I have a Leupold Tactical.

ETA -- But really, you also should try to match the scope to the rifle's precision.

Primarily the latter - prarie dogs and paper.

Thanks for all the replies.
