Anyone have a brand they really standby?...we're looking at the feeding kind...have a rough $500 budget and want to ensure that we don't buy a piece of crap. I've done some comparisons on bizrate.com, etc. but that was fairly inconclusive. I'm partial to HP for no real reason and Visioneer has been suggested but without a reason. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. |

In general, I would say Epson. Visioneers I've come across can be very....picky...when it comes to getting the drivers working properly. I've used HP before, but I never got the feel that they'd work as a 'business class' scanner..... It's kinda interesting, but when doing a lot of research w/regard to scanners, I never came across a single one that was just all around good. Heck, most of the reviews could be summed up as 'this sucks', or 'this sucks, but not as badly'..... |
| I am involved with medical document imaging at a medium sized hospital. Our users scan over 1 million documents per year using 35 scanners. We have used Canon, Visioneer and Futitsu scanners for 3 years now. Our applicaton calls for a fairly fast duplex (scans both sides of the paper at the same time) scanner that is easy to use. By far the Fujitsu's have been the best value. The Visioneers are cheap but they are pure crap in a high volume environment. They are slow, tend to break down a lot, and good luck with their service department. The Canon's are good, fast, and reliable but they are VERY expensive for the features you get , and require expensive maintenance agreements for service. The Fujitsu's are work horses, rarely break, and the replacement service plan is easy and reasonably priced. Their entry model is above your budget at $850 or so, but they are rock solid. Good luck! |
