[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SWEDEN (Page 1 of 4)

| Has anyone here ever been to Sweden? I'm considering moving there. How was it? are the people friendly? How's work/life? |
Other then the taxes, the stifling socialism and the depressing winters. It's probably a very nice place to live. You could do SOOOOO much worse then Sweden. I have to ask though. Why Sweden? Are you of Swedish heritage or do you just think you'll like the climate and people? |
|
I lived in Sweden for almost 2 years. It is a beautiful, clean, civilized country. The women are hot. The men are metrosexual. It was far too "progressive" for my taste. It you are in to socialism, go for it. I can think of many worse places to end up. You couldn't pay me to leave the US permanently though. If you don't like US culture, I highly encourage you to leave. Take all the self-loathing, anti-American liberals with you. Don't be surprised though if you find yourself wanting to come back after a while. |
Been there. Done that. Swedish women also know they are the hottest ticket around, so if you can stand being around self-centered stuck up women for 5 minutes after you've gotten your nut off be my guest. I had a fun six months sampling what the country had to offer, but that was enough for me. Was happy as hell to get back to America, and after dealing with the "Better than you" attitude of the Swedish females, my perspective on American women was all the more elevated. |
Please don't discourage him. This is a good thing for him and a good thing for America. It works both ways. People in other countries that love America and it's constitution should move here and become Americans. |
|
You should tell us a little about what you are looking for and we can help you find it. I think Sweden is the bluest of the scandinavian countries. Just look at the flag. Denmark is a little more red. Again check out the flag. They have really good coffee, good pastries, decent beer, good bread. It's clean, although there is a shocking amount of American looking Graffitti where in a few places. I was totally suprised by it. At least there was in 2001. The Danes say that the graffitti is recent and is basically their kids copying America. Most Danes speak English quite well. Nice looking women. Copenhagen is a great city to live in if you like bicycling. There's Canada right next door. Canada is a big country, I suggest you go to the eastern provinces since they are the least American. You could also go to Puerto Rico which is still part of America, but has a sort of Spanish heritage culture. |
|
Based upon the little, little bit I know. for a long time they had a model of socialism that actually worked fairly well as long as you didn't mind being taxed at insane rates if you were among the top earners, but their society seemed to have a fairly good work ethic so there weren't too many derelicts draining the system. But about 10-15 years ago their system system started to falter....and I forget why...it's been quite awhile since I've done much reading about it. Lately I've read they've had problems with muslim immigrants stirring up a fuss. Anywho...I am curious to know your background. How old are you? What is it you don't like about the U.S.? Just remember, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. |
|
I lived in Germany for awhile..liked it. I think Sweden has stupid high taxes on booze so its to expensive to go out an get wasted.../ Plus I have read some unsavoury things about Muslims gang raping swedish women... Nice country but abit to much of stifled socialist state..how bout Norway or Denmark? |
|
I'll look into Finland. I was born in America and my family has been here as long as everyone elses. I don't like the culture of America. Huge trucks/suvs, free country i can be a bitch, disrespect and maliciousness towards each other, sexual prudence, a society of wasteing things. I do not like it, suffice to say I've thought about it thoroughly. As far as a huge tax on alcohol, thats okay I don't drink, another thing I dislike about america, I'm looked at like a fucking moron/religious nut because I don't drink alcohol. Religions in America drive me nuts as I'm not christian and they won't stop pushing their beliefs on me. As far as the people in here with a "if you dont like it then leave" attitude.. I'm trying to, no need for that Thanks to all who helped me, I'll look into Finland. |
Don't let the door hit you on the way out, sucker!
|
ignorant "patriotic" morons? Ingnorant. Maybe little? Moron, you are 19 wtf do you know. Patriotic, Damn strait! Come around here and spout off some anti american crap and see how a "ignorant patriotic moron" acts!
|
Well, picking up and moving to a new country is a big step - but good luck. What languages do you speak? What in particular are you expecting from your new home? I doubt there is country that arfcom can't cover down on, so ask away. |
Are you an Emo kid? ![]() You should enjoy the fact that living in the US lets you pay a shitload less tax then Sweden..I think tax rate in Sweden is even far higher than Canada. What you should do is live in the US and travel around alot that way you keep the citizenship and get to experience different cultures abroad... Europe has alot to offer but like anywhere theres pros and cons.. |
I was under the impression that to emigrate to Sweden you needed noteworthy assets and a marketable/earnable skill? At 19 I doubt he has either, if that is true. |
Holy shit, you're 19 and you're fed up with this country? This is what you need to do. And no, I'm not kidding. 1) Work your ass off and save every single penny possible until May of 2008. 2) Get a passport. 3) Get on a damn plane and fly your ass to Europe for the summer. 4) Bum your way around Europe, try to avoid the hostels that fill up with American frat house jackoffs and their sorority cohorts during the summer. 5) Get out and meet some people. 6) When your money has nearly run out, get a ticket back to the US. |
It's the highest in the world. And thry also have great healthcare and a version of social security a million times better than americas. |
A million, heh? ![]() Ask not what Sweden can do for you, ask what you can do for Sweden. |
c'mon... its not Lenin day is it?![]() Look at Canada for what free health care means.. people fucking dying waiting in lines for an overburdened system and not legally able to pay for care unless they leave the country... If your sucessful enough youll create your own social security. Really though why would you want the state to tax over half of your income? To say this indicates that you havent worked much or made any money... Enjoy the fact that you live in about the only country in the world where firearms ownership is a right and not a state dictated "priviledge" |
| Alternatively, in some countries if you are able to pass their University entrance exams in their country's language, you may attend uni for free. Germany and the Czech Republic are two that I can think of off the top of my head that do this. I will warn you that competition is fierce (remember from econ what happens when demand outstrips supply?) for the openings. If you truly want to do it, it is possible but it may be one of the hardest things you've ever done if you don't have a good foundation in a particular language at this point in time. |
That's kind of the impression I'm getting as well. |
|
OK, that explains a lot. You might want to go here for more info on living in other countries... |
|
Guys, I'm replying to this guy's IM now. He has a huge number of misconceptions about Sweden which is very typical. Don't ask me how, but I come into contact with a large number of people wishing to emigrate to Sweden and what they thing and what reality is is usually vastly different. |
dude...dude...dude... I'm in the healthcare field. trust me when i say this. THE USA HAS THE BEST HEALTHCARE IN THE WORLD..but it cost money to treat you. your 19- what gives you the right to want social security?? do you realize where that social security money comes from?? if your that illogical.. i'm sure Uncle Sam has a special place for you to get your head in the game. you'd probably get to visit foreign countries as well.. free healthcare?? retirement and education benefits?? you'll even get your cultural and ideological exchanges as necessary. |
