Hello all,

After reading previous posts about "SHTF" and how to carry gear, how would you carry your weapons?  I read guys carrying 60 lbs of gear and 1000 rd's  In a true shtf scenario, would'nt the guy walking down the street with a bob, AR-15, AK, Glock, 1911, 870, ninja sword, and phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range get shot and killed with extreme prejudice by the "MAN?"  What would be a true bob loadout for a situation like Katrina or 9-11-01?

Who is it that you guys think is going to kill the camouflage people? It would not occur to me to studdenly put on my turkey hunting clothes in an emergency but I would not be terrified of being gunned down for it either. If things are "bad" then that means the police are usually out of commission, whether because they ran or due to the weather, that doesn't mean I'mgoing to strap on a rifle and start marching back and forth at the end of my driveway, but I sure wouldn't decide I was only going to depend on a pistol if I thought there was going to be trouble.

I live in Luling which is a little town about 10 miles from New Orleans. During Katrina when the lights were out, all of my fimily gathered at my parent's house in Luling. My brother and I took 6 hour shifts posting watch from the roof top at night. He has a good Gen3 NVG that I used when it was my turn.

The only weapons I carried with me on the roof was a .22 rifle with sub-sonic rounds, glock .40, and my paintball gun loaded with pepper gas balls. A few people did pass down the street, but I just kept quiet and let them go about thier business so I wouldn't be notice.

Now if they would have entered the yard, first thing I would have done was shoot them with the pepper balls being one pepper ball covers a 10sq ft area. But the best part of it was that I never had to shoot anything during the whole situatuon.
I hope this helps in some way or another.

When I worked at a gun shop everyone was into it. I was to for a while but having prior military experience lent me some realism. One of our buddies put on all his gear and another buddy who served and myself gave him a 2 minute test.

Stand up with weapon at low ready. Take a knee, stand up, take a knee stand up etc. 2 minutes and he could not get up becuase of all the silly crap he was packing.

My BOB is in a  laptop case.

This man is thinking.
There are only two times a bug out will be succesful.
1) If you bug out way before everyone else. This would entail many false alarms.
2) If you bug out way after everyone else. This would entail waiting out the danger.

The most important thing to have is a plan.
If you are bugging out, to where??? is the question you need to ask.
If you don't have an answer, you are better off staying put, and waiting things out.
Unless of course SHTF happens to be a big ass hurricane, and you live in a city which is below sea level.
Then you should GTFO by any means possible.

Please, everyone, read this again.

In the initial few days of an event, you would want to blend in with the normal population should you be forced out of your home and have to flee.  Jeans and a T-shirt, or whatever is "normal" for you, is fine.  MOST "SHTF" events last days or weeks at most, and in those situations, camo and web gear aren't likely to be needed much.

In an EXTENDED "SHTF" situation (commonly known as TEOTWAWKI), you may EVENTUALLY want some camo and some field gear, but we're talking about weeks or months with little or no government involvement in the community at any level.  This would mean a total collapse of civil services for an extended period, and in THAT situation, camo and gear could be very useful.  This type of situation is VERY RARE in the US, but it can and has happened, at least in localized areas.

Since I live in a mostly rural area with 3 small towns I can bug out and up to the hills easily to my friend's cabin.  My current location isn't a very good place to man a defense.  Take alernative routes, have full gas tank and keep the hammer down and not stopping for anything.

I got them from a friend on Kenner SWAT. They work really well because if someone is armed and doesn't know you are there.......... you can tag him/her first and they'll be dropping what ever weapons they are holding and hitting the ground.

And the plus side of it is you won't get any type of firearm charges because all you tell the police is you used pepper spray.

Cammies are fine for you hicks in the sticks, but in the real world of big cities or most of southern CA we aren't going anywhere.  So you better be ready to sink in to the background and NOT look like somebody who is a threat or possible source of weapons.

Cover and Deception Cover and Deception

I want to look just bad enough that the bad guys will look for easier targets but be prepared to go defensive.  And just confused enough that folks are going to think I don't have supplies.  Now people in the neighborhood know that I'm prepared, it's the non-neighbors I need to fool.

Camo is looking like your surroudings. If your surroudings are other people, you look like them, not like you're on a combat jump in Normandy. And anyway there's plenty of "outdoorsy" clothing and gear you can buy that works perfectly well as both sheeple-flage and environmental camo without attracting attention to yourself.

Of course the boring truth about SHTF is have lots of food and water at home and in the car. This is what is going to really save your ass. Have a gun too, but the water is critical. It also helps if you have a few good friends or family near by so that you could all team up and help eachother. One person's food supply or gun supply might get destroyed.
