Other than .22 rimfire Im completely new to bolt guns. Going with 6.5 creedmoore and this will be my introduction to chasing groups and dialing in a custom load. Predator has a 22" medium contour barrel and prairie has a 20" bull. Looking at the pics I cant tell how much thicker the prairie is from the predator. They look the same! Want to squeeze every bit of performance out of the creedmoore. I know a diff of only 2" isnt much but isnt a bull barrel better for benchrest? |

I don’t think you are going to notice a difference. If Ruger has actual specs on their barrel profiles I’ve never seen it so I don’t know what the actual difference is. The heavier barrel might just heat up a little slower. You’ll get a tiny bit more speed with the longer barrel but again not enough to matter. For what you’re doing either will be fine. You can also look into the Glenfield rifles which are basically the older Americans for less money. I would honestly just pick the one you like the looks of the best or the cheapest whichever way you lean. |
