Entrapment.  Pure and simple.  What happened to the EVIDENCE?  Like the fact the shotgun in question had a non-rebounding firing pin and the measurement technique CLEARLY states measurement rods are to be used with the firing pin RETRACTED.

That is worth 50 thousandths.  And an indictment.

What an interesting thread; this has never been discussed on ARFCOM....

My understanding is that the gubmint popped a guy for something, then flipped that guy, threatening to go medieval on charging/sentencing him so that he'd agree to be a CI.

THAT guy was ordered to get Weaver to cut down a shotgun.  Weaver did, took it to the feds, they measured it, it wasn't short enough.

Sent him back, Weaver literally pointed to the hacksaw and said do it yourself.

Against his instinct, he did it.

Feds swoop in and threaten similar to para 1 above.  Spy on white supremacists or we'll get you.

Weaver won't play ball.  Prosecutor threatens to confiscate the family home, which was impossible under the law.

Weaver asked for confirmation that the family home owuldn't get grabbed, they refused, he missed a court date because he was afraid of losing his family home.

Firefight ensued.

That's purely from memory, though.

CITADELGRAD, he missed the court date because it was changed and he was not notified.

I'll have to look it up in his book but I think he states that he knew it was changed and FTA'd anyway.

Still doesn't excuse killing all those folks., just f'in stupid.

+1 on all of the above.  The movie sucked.  The Feds botched this big time.  A waste of resources that could have been better spent on real threats.  I met Weaver and bought his book.  Pretty good read actually.  Just goes to show that this s%$t could happen to most anyone in this country if conditions are right.

All the Federal LEO types can flame away now.

I had an outstanding, multi-page summation (or whatever you call it) of the case.  Court official 'findings' and all.

Completely forgot about it when I changed ISPs, etc until now.

Damn.

Lon Horuchi needs to redeem himself.  Perhaps he can volunteer for Iraq where his skills can be better applied.
