So the roof on my shed isn't in the greatest shape but I've been putting it off because I simply haven't had time to mess with it, but it recently started to leak like a damn sieve (guessing freeze thaw didn't help.)
Looks like we'll get a good bit of snow/ice Monday followed by up to an inch of rain Tuesday. I went to home depot and bought a gallon of this stuff hoping to slap on a quick fix that will last for a few months until it warms up and I have time to replace the roof. My question - while this product doesn't have a minimum temperature for application, we're supposed to have a high of 28 tomorrow, does this stuff even have a chance in those temperatures? |

Mastic for patch work is kind of iffy. It's only supposed to be temporary. very temporary. Mastic is generally used to for detail work like metal eaves, stank pipes, vents, chimney flashing, etc...
You need to use some roofing felt too. Layer it. Mastic a small patch first. Then mastic a larger patch over it. Then another. Spread cement on top of that. The surface and the material should be dry when you apply it. This is assuming they are small leaks and you know where they are. Assuming an asphalt shingle roof.... eta: mastic = cement = bull |

Tarp it for the time being. I'd also get a roll of tarpaper and staple a layer over the shingles before I used the tarp. It won't be perfect, but it will be a large improvement over the current situation. ETA: I doubt that the goop will do anything in February. |
