Lincoln Chafee “Governor Grinch” after he defied lawmakers and decided that the state would have a “holiday tree” instead of a “Christmas tree.” The governor defended his decision by arguing that it is in keeping with the state’s founding in 1636 by religious dissident Roger Williams as a haven for tolerance – where government and religion were kept separate. Instead of arguing over the tree, the governor called on lawmakers to focus their energy on feeding the poor. “I would encourage all those engaged in this discussion – whatever their opinion on the matter – to use their energy and enthusiasm to make a positive difference in the lives of their fellow Rhode Islanders,” Chafee told the Associated Press. |
| My cousin has known the Chaffee family for many years living in Potowanmet and I have met a few of them. This guy is more RINOl than his father (former US Senator). I believe he won election in a 3 way race and will be gone for some other Alpha Hotel next time around. |

IF the Mayor wants to be a Secular Humanist then have NOTHING and let the people decide next election cycle. there is NO FREEDOME FROM RELIGION in the Constitution and NO separation of Church and state,,there is to be NO CHURCH ESTABLISHED by the state ALA Henry the 8th....

I find it hilarious that Christians are pissed that a Pagan symbol is not named after their holiday. It's expressly forbiden, in the bible, to cut and decorate a tree. I can live w/o the state otherwise meddling in my personal beliefs. I don't really give a damn if it wants to put up anything or nothing at all. I will do what I please in my own home & the state can leave me alone. That's all I really expect or want.
Basically, the gov't should keep the peace, maintain the public infrastructure, & otherwise butt out. |

Ah, the time of the year is upon us where all we do is look to be offended while we empty our wallets. I never understood why so many people get offended over this sort of stuff. Enjoy your Christmas if you can not do that without every town square and every store doing the same thing, then maybe you need to reassess your relationship. I am not bothered by this sort of thing. |
